Yes, there is something else Iwould like you to consider...
After witnessing 2 years of wild?res and the massive amounts of CO2 being sent into the atmosphere, I had this experience.
A man and a woman bought 3 lots next to us and wanted to dramaticallychange what existed.
Ittook several weeks, and many different kinds of heavy equipment and more than one at a time, to completely eradicate all vegetation on the 2 largest lots.
The noise was extremely aggressive and the smell of gasoline so strong that Isometimes could not tend to my garden. Ithought of all the carbon, and Ithought Ifeel like am experiencing what it must be likewhen they are destroying the rainforest. Iwished over and over that everyone in this town could have experienced what i had to withstand Ithink it would have done everyone some good.
And then the same activity being repeated again for the construction of a 5000 square foot building for 2 people to live in, a 60-foot-long swimming with pool house and saunas, a bocce ball court, a building for a gym, a guest house with storage for a boat, and a 2-car garage. And then again, the same activity is repeated as semi-trucks keep arriving with their mature trees and shrubs.
I knew the consequences of all this but there is nothing I could do but endure.
The man who assaulted the planet is in the wind turbine business and sells wind turbines around the world, and I doubt that the carbon footprint from this project willeven begin to be made up in their children's lifetimes, no way.
I have no doubt in my mind this behavior is being repeated by each and every profession that is getting beyond rich offthe death of the planet.
That experience scared me straight. I am learning to live in a reasonable basic way, changed my consumer ways, learning the difference between what I need and what Iwant and practicing self-control and Isuffer loss every day that we are losing a good friend and everything our friend gave us.
Because of that extremely traumatizing experience and resulting point of view, I have the opinion that global warming is caused by human activity, that is caused by some sort of lack in a human being and greenhouse gas emissions are a by-product of all that...
That said...l am very interested in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
I hope you willconsider having me on the commission.
Thank You
Claudia Rannikar

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND: Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business.
OTHER RELEVANT EXPERIENCE: Served on Sonoma's Cultural & Fine Arts Commission since February 2018 in which time I served on the Student Artist award application process and rubric.
Before moving to Sonoma, I served on the Board of Directors for Arts Education in Maryland Schools which supports providing art education support for programs where the arts have been stripped in our schools due to budget concerns.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: I serve on various Boards where education of diverse students are a focus of the organization and increasing students of color at the university level.
GENERAL QUESTIONS:
Have you ever attended a meeting of the Commission to which you are applying? If so, how many? yes, many since February 2018. We don't have a set meeting schedule but meet as needed and also have separate committee meetings.
What is your understanding of the role and responsibility of this Commission? In addition to The Treasured Artist facilitation of selection and the Student Artist Award, temporary art collection on the Plaza, our committee is looking to engage the public in looking to artistically "wrap" unsightly objects on City property throughout Sonoma and bring art to the attention of passers-by. For example, a metal utility box could be wrapped with art, designed by a local artist. This work has been done by neighboring cities.
What would be your goal(s) as a Commissioner?
Some of my goals if allowed to continue as a Commissioner, would be to better support our local schools in their art education and provide more opportunities for young artists to thrive in our community; in addition, I would very much like to explore the artistic wrapping of areas where the display of the art would benefit our community. Another idea would be to replace the controversial garbage bins on the Plaza with devices which could also be "wrapped" with art.
What do you feel you could contribute to see these goals realized? My time and dedication to working on the projects needed. Much of our committee depends on consistent dedication over many months of seeing a project come to fruition.
Agenda Item #6.4:
THIS DOCUMENT AND ALL ATTACHMENTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR PUBLIC INSPECTION Have you previously served, or do you currently serve, on a Sonoma Commission or Committee? If yes, which one(s) and for what period of time?
Yes, I have served on the Cultural & Fine Arts Commission since February 2018.
Is there anything else you would like us to consider when reviewing your application? If we have an abundance of applications and eager citizens wanting to serve, I would be happy to serve as an alternate. Although we do need some stability to the committee and experience to remain on the committee to continue the work we are doing, I also support welcoming others to serve and would be happy to take a backseat and serve as an alternate which is often needed when other members are not able to attend. We have had a very involved alternate on our committee the last few years and he should be asked to serve as a full member given his dedication.

Agenda Item #6.4:
Kara V. Haren
__________________________________________________________________ December 14th, 2022
To the City of Sonoma,
My name is Kara Haren, and I would be honored to serve on Sonoma’s Design Review & Historic Preservation Commission. Let me take this opportunity to explain why I would love the opportunity to participate, and how my professional background could be the right fit for the role.
First, let’s start by how we got here. My husband’s grandparents have lived in town for close to thirty years, and during the last ten years while dating their beloved grandson, we visited often from San Francisco to ‘slow down’ and spend time with them in this charming town. We fell in love with Sonoma quickly over our near monthly visits, both for the kindness of the residents and for the visual charm of this beautiful, historic, town. During COVID, we (as many parents with young children did) questioned where we wanted to be, and more importantly, where *and whom with*, we wanted to raise our children.
Sonoma was top of our list, and we made the big life move sixteen months ago. My parents visited us in our new town, and as folks who also grew up in a town of this size, commented on ‘how nice of a community’ Sonoma was… and I couldn’t agree more. As a working mother of two young kids, I want to ensure they grow up to know that their voice and their time carries weight, and to use both wisely. When realizing we hit our year mark within Sonoma earlier this fall, I started actively looking for ways to be involved within this incredible town, which led me to explore the role of Sonoma’s Design Review & Historic Preservation Commission.
My professional background is such. I’ve spent the last fifteen years in interior design and corporate merchandising, working for a portfolio of well-respected corporate companies across Fashion, Home Decor and Beauty. After spending formidable years at Pottery Barn Corporate, becoming a mother curbed my desire to continue up the corporate ladder. I have spent the last four years building my own interior design company, Along Came Lennox, named after my first daughter Lennox, whose arrival created a strong desire for a different pace of life and to pursue something that really mattered to my heart. Our firm is built on the philosophy of getting to know our clients, identifying their style, and equally honoring the bones of the home. I have an appreciation and love affair for design, architecture and notably, for finding a balance of restoring the old and weaving in the new.
I am a proud resident of Sonoma who plans to grow old in this town. With sincere soul-searching about where I want to pour my heart and time both personally and professionally, I am looking for an opportunity to be involved within this town that I feel honored to live in. My hope is that my design expertise and professional background would be of assistance in reviewing, guiding and honoring the aesthetic charm of Sonoma.
Thank you kindly for your time,
