THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2022
CALL TO ORDER Al Rios, Mayor called a Special City Council Meeting to order at 5:31 p.m.

PRESENT
Mayor Al Rios, Vice Mayor Maria del Pilar Avalos, Council Member Maria Davila, and Council Member Gil Hurtado; City Manager Chris Jeffers, City Attorney Raul F. Salinas
ABSENT Council Member Denise Diaz
City Treasurer Gregory Martinez
CLOSED SESSION The Council Members recessed into Closed Session at 5:33 p.m. and reconvened at 6:30 p.m. with four (4) Members of Council present. City Attorney Salinas reported the following:
1. CONFERENCE WITH LEGAL COUNSEL - PENDING
LITIGATION
Pursuant to Government Code Section 54956.9(a), 54954.9(b)(3)(C) a. Robert Mendoza v. City of South Gate, et al
b. Paul Gandara v. City of South Gate, et al.
On item 1(a), Mr. Mendoza claims he suffered injuries when he went over a meter box in the city sidewalk that caused him to trip and fall. Upon completion of the presentation by the City Attorney, a motion made by Council Member Davila and seconded by Vice Mayor Avalos and on a vote of 4-0, City Council authorized the City Attorney to defend the action.
On item 1(b), Mr. Gandara alleges that he was riding a bike and fell on a crack in the sidewalk that caused him to sustain injuries. The city previously denied that claim as had denied the Mendoza claim. After the presentation by the City Attorney a motion was made by Council Member Hurtado and seconded by Councilwoman Davila and the vote was 4-0, to authorize the City Attorney to defend that lawsuit.
SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES OF NOVEMBER 10, 2022 ADJOURNMENT Vice Mayor Avalos adjourned the meeting at 6:39 p.m. and seconded Council Member Hurtado.
