TUESDAY, JULY 25, 2023
CALL TO ORDER Maria del Pilar Avalos, Mayor called a Special City Council Meeting to order at 5:15 p.m.
ROLL CALL Yodit Glaze, City Clerk
PRESENT Mayor Maria del Pilar Avalos, Vice Mayor Gil Hurtado, Council Member Joshua Barron, and Council Member Al Rios; City Treasurer Jose De La Paz, City Manager Chris Jeffers
LATE City Attorney Raul F. Salinas arrived at 5:22 p.m.
ABSENT Council Member Maria Davila
1 CERTIFICATES The City Council will issue a Certificate of Appreciation to Police Officer Georgina Vargas in recognition for receiving the 2022 Mothers Against Drunk Driving (M.A.D.D.) Award.
Item 1 was continued to the next scheduled City Council meeting. 2 PERSONNEL RECRUITMENT
& SELECTION The City Council received and filed the list of new full-time employees hired or promoted during June 2023.
CLOSED SESSION The Council Members recessed into Closed Session at 5:26 p.m. and reconvened at 6:32 p.m. with four (4) Members of Council present. City Attorney Salinas reported the following:
1. CONFERENCE WITH LEGAL COUNSEL — PENDING
LITIGATION
Pursuant to Government Code Section 54956.9(a),
54954.9(b)(3)(C)
a. Gloria Rocha Robles v. City of South Gate, et al.
b. Layton Kling v. City of South Gate
c. Debra Collins v. City of South Gate
Item 1 (a) is a claim of an individual that fell on the city's portion of the parkway. There was a motion to approve a proposed settlement by Vice Mayor Hurtado and seconded by Mayor Avalos and the vote was 4-0. The amount of the settlement was not disclosed at this time but will be disclosed pursuant to the Brown Act once the agreement is finalized.

On item 1(b), the city received a report by the City Attorney with respect to the ongoing status of that litigation. There was no reportable action taken.
On item 1(c), the city received a report by the City Attorney with respect to the ongoing status of that litigation. There was no reportable action taken.
Mario Dominguez asked if Mr. Salinas could reinstate the last 2 cases.
Council Member Rios adjourned the meeting at 6:35 p.m. and seconded by Vice Mayor Hurtado.
