CALL TO ORDER Gil Hurtado, Mayor called a Special City Council Meeting to order at 5:30 p.m.

LATE City Attorney Raúl F. Salinas arrived at 5:32 p.m.
CERTIFICATES The City Council presented Certificates of Appreciation to Manuel Rosas, Director of Services Area 7, Erika Corral, Jaime Gomez, Carlos Gonzalez, Alicia Llamas, Evelyn Salas, Mayra Gonzalez, German Casillas and the South Gate Chamber of Commerce in recognition of the MEN'S WELLNESS EVENT that occurred on June 8, 2024.
CLOSED SESSION The Council Members recessed into Closed Session at 5:55 p.m. and reconvened at 6:56 p.m. with all Members of Council present. Special City Counsel Hardwick reported the following:
CONFERENCE WITH LEGAL COUNSEL - ANTICIPATED
LITIGATION
Pursuant to Government Code Section 54956.9(c)
One (1) - Potential Case
On item 1, the City Council discussed one potential case of anticipated litigation. The litigation had to do with a resolution of a claim with the surety representing a company called NR Development. The surety is like an insurance company that provides insurance when a contractor fails to deliver the services required under the contract. The City Council considered a resolution of the claim in which the city will receive approximately $460,000 and that amount will get impacted also by a reduction of about $200,000 to account for a negotiated sum. The city will be receiving additional monies from the surety to complete the project and get it back on track. The motion to approve the proposed settlement was made by Mayor Hurtado and seconded by Council Member Rios and on a vote of 5-0 to resolve that matter.

On item 2, the City Council received a presentation by city staff and by the city's negotiator Mr. Houston and upon completion of that presentation there was no action taken. There was guidance provided and the matter will return to the City Council for further discussion at a future Council ADJOURNMENT Vice Mayor Davila unanimously adjourned the meeting at 7:00 p.m. and seconded by Council Member Avalos.
