Attachment B
Greetings City Council,
My name is Aalyah Martinez. As a brief introduction, I am a resident of South Gate, a Senior and Associate Student Body President of South Gate High School, Key Club President, and South Gate Girl Scout.

I am passionate about taking action against the inequalities I see in my community. Historically, Southeast Los Angeles has struggled with various injustices including water quality and water access. Simultaneously, Marine ecosystems face severe threats including climate change and pollution. I am coupling my passion and my academic interests in preserving marine ecosystems through my Gold Award Project. The Gold Award is the highest honor a Girl Scout can earn by implementing a sustainable project. Only 5% of eligible Girl Scouts achieve this award and I intend to join this esteemed cohoit.

For my Gold Award project, I propose the installation of a filtration water bottle refillable station in the lieart of South Gate Park: The South Gate Sports Center. This resource will provide the community access to clean drii'iking water and encourage the usage of refillable water bottles thus minimizing plastic waste. My project would raise awareness about water ineqriality while promoting conservation and clean water standards.

I seek this council's permission to partner on this important community project. In addition to your permission, I request the city of South Gate's support in hosting the station in its Sports Center, providing the water for the system, and minimal biannual maintenance. I will be responsible for fundraising and securing donations for the water refillable station. Additionally, I seek to liost community events geared towards sustainability and water equality. With your partnership, I look forward to making a difference in my community together.

I appreciate your time.

Many thanks,
Aalyah Martinez
