CALLTO ORDER Maria Davila, Mayor called a Special City Council Meeting to order at 5:32 p.m.

PRESENT Mayor Maria Davila, Vice Mayor Joshua Barron, Council Member Maria del Pilar Avalos, Council Member Gil Hurtado and Council Member Al Rios; City Treasurer Jose De La Paz, City Attorney Raul F. Salinas, Assistant City Manager Arturo Cervantes

PROCLAMATION The City Council issued a proclamation declaring July 2025 as "Parks Make Life Better" Month.
CLOSED SESSION The Council Members recessed into Closed Session at 5:43 p.m. and reconvened at 6:43 p.m. with four (4) Members of Council present. City Attorney Salinas reported the following:
1. CONFERENCE WITH LEGAL COUNSEL - PENDING
LITIGATION
Pursuant to Governrnent Code Section 54956.9(a),
54954.9(b)(3)(C)
Daniel Garcia v. City of South Gate, et al.
Ana Sanchez De Guillen v. City of South Gate, et al.
On item 1(a), involved a claim against the city from someone riding a motorized bicycle on a city sidewalk. The City Attorney provided the City Council with a status update on that case and received guidance from the City Council. There was no vote taken afterwards
Item 1(b) is a claim of an individual who fell on a portion of Long Beach Boulevard and is bringing a lawsuit against the City of South Gate. As a result, there was a brief presentation made by the City Attorney and upon completion of that presentation, there was a motion made by Mayor Davila and seconded by Council Member Avalos and on a vote of 5-0, authorized the City Attorney to defend that matter.

On item 2, there was a presentation made by city staff and upon completion of that presentation, there was no reportable action taken by the City Council.
ADJOURNMENT Vice Mayor Barron adjourned the meeting at 6:45 p.m. and seconded by Council Member Hurtado.
