ANALYSIS: The South Gate Police Department places ahighpriority on community engagement, youth development, employee wellness, and maintaining positive relationships with the residents and businesses it serves. Meaningful engagement with the community helps strengthen communication, build trust, promote transparency, and enhance the overall quality of life in South Gate.

The generous $100,000 grant from Koos Manufacturing - AG Jeans will provide the Police Department with an important source of funding to maintain and enhance several existing community programs while also creating opportunities for new initiatives.

The funding will support programs that directly connect the Police Department with residents of all ages and backgrounds. These programs include the South Gate Classic Car Show, Santa Cop, Citizen Academies, youth programming, the All-Female Youth Surnrnit, the Pink Patch Project, and additional school-area parking enforcement. The grant will also provide 'funding for the Department's Peer Support Team to support employee wellness and strengthen employee morale.

The additional funding for parking enforcement will allow the Department to provide enhanced enforcement and visibility around schools during school hours. This will help address traffic, parking, and pedestrian-safety concerns in areas where children and families are most vulnerable.

The grant will also allow the Department to expand youth engagement through equestrian training and an All-Female Youth Summit. These programs are designed to provide young people with positive experiences, mentorship, leadership opportunities, and meaningful interaction with members of the Police Department.

BACKGROUND: For several decades, the South Gate Police Department has worked to strengthen its relationship with the community by hosting, sponsoring, and participating in numerous cornrnunity events and outreach programs. These efforts are an important component of the Department's commitment to community-oriented policing and building trust withthe residents it serves.

Many of these programs require significant financial resources. Due to reductions in the Police Department's General Fund budget for Fiscal Year 2026-27, several community events and programs have been reduced, modified, or eliminated.

The generous $100,000 grant from Koos Manufacturing - AG Jeans, will provide the Department with an opportunity to restore funding for several important community activities while expanding opportunities for youth and residents.
6 In particular, the grant will allowthe Department to continue supporting established programs such as Santa Cop, the Classic Car Show, Citizen Academies, and the Pink Patch Project, while also introducing new initiatives such as equestrian training for youth and an All-Female Youth Summit.

The City and South Gate Police Department are grateful to Koos Manufacturing - AG Jeans for its generous investment inthe South Gate community. This partnership demonstrates the important role that local businesses can play in supporting public safety, youth development, community engagement, and employee wellness.
