[NOTICE: This message originated outside of City of South San Francisco -- DO NOT CLICK on links or open attachments unless you are sure the content is safe.] Dear Mayor Nicolas and City Councilmembers,
Our names are Edith and Ulisess Arias and we are residents of the City of South San Francisco with Ulisess having a disability. We support For the Future Housing’s project at 428 Baden Avenue because our city needs more deeply affordable housing near jobs, public transit, and services. In our experience looking for affordable housing in South San Francisco we have struggled to find housing that is affordable to Ulisess because of his limited income. This project will help other residents of South San Francisco, like Ulisess, who grew up in this community and because of a disability cannot afford to live here independently.
Ulisess attended public schools in South San Francisco and created a network of friends who have been in his classes and adult program throughout the years. His only chance to live in affordable housing would be to go to another city who already has these services in place and housing opportunities. However, he needs and wants to stay in the same city with his family, friends and co-workers (He works two days at the after school care program in Los Cerritos Elementary). South San Francisco is HIS community!
If you had an adult child (31 years old) with intellectual and developmental disabilities wouldn't you want to look for housing while you are still alive so that when you pass away, he is already settled in his new housing arrangements and supported services? We ask for your support to keep the dream alive that South San Francisco continues to be a diverse and inclusive community for ALL regardless of abilities! Respectfully,
Edith and Ulisess Arias
