South San Francisco Scavenger Company/City of South San Francisco Multi-unit Pilot Program (MUPP)
What is MUPP?
The Multi-unit Pilot Program (MUPP) is designed to help property owners keep their property clean and dump-free! In partnership with South San Francisco Scavenger Company (SSFSC), property owners will be able to schedule a one-day cleanup event for their tenants free of charge. This makes keeping your property clean convenient for you and your tenants!
What are the conditions of participation in MUPP?
This program is FREE but requires the following -
• Property must subscribe to an appropriate level of trash, recycling, and organics service. • Property must provide tenants with educational outreach regarding the recycling and organics programs, and SB 1383.
o We provide this for you!
• Property is responsible for hosting the cleanup – meaning they communicate with tenants, supervise the loading of the roll-off box, and are responsible for any overflow and any prohibited use.
How does MUPP work?
Property owners pre-select a weekday for SSFSCO to drop off a roll-off box in the morning (~7:00 am).
Tenants may dispose of eligible items until 3 pm the same day. The size of the box is dependent on the number of living units your property has (2 cubic yards are allowed per living unit). The property owner is responsible for identifying a viable space for the box and communicating the dumping day and times with tenants. SSFSC and the City of South San Francisco can provide materials on appropriate items that will be accepted for disposal.
Why should I participate in MUPP?
Participating in MUPP helps you and your tenants keep the property clean and litter free. Roll-off service normally costs $925.84 per 20 cubic yard box but is completely free of charge to you and your tenants.
Participation in this program also ensures you are up-to-date and in compliance with the rules and ordinances of the City and the State.
What kind of items are accepted for disposal?
As a participant in this program, we will provide handouts that you can share with your tenants on what items are accepted for disposal. These items include the following:
Items accepted:
• Old clothing & shoes
• Rugs & Linens
• Toys and housewares
• Small appliances such as microwaves, toasters, vacuums, and similar • E-waste such as televisions, radios, speakers, desktop printers, and similar • Mattresses, box springs, and furniture
All garbage must be bagged or boxed
Small appliances and e-waste should all be boxed
Items NOT accepted:
• Single items over 200 lbs
• Hazardous waste such as paint, batteries, medications, sharps, cleaning fluids, etc. • Automotive fluids and parts (including tires)
• Standard recyclables (paper, cardboard, bottles & cans, etc.) • Compostable (yard trimmings, food scraps, and food-soiled paper) • Liquids
• Construction, demolition ,and landscaping debris
• Large appliances such as dishwashers, ovens, stoves, water heaters and washing machines
