Why are you interested in serving as a Boards and Commissions member? What do you feel you could contribute?
After seeing first-hand how much capability the local city government has to change people's lives, I wanted to incorporate my skills and passion for artistic expression with my drive to make a difference in my community. I have lived in South San Francisco my whole life, so l know the community and only wish to see it continue to grow and improve. My family participates in and volunteers for the Ballet Folklorico Alma de Mexico at South San Francisco High School and I would love to contribute to the current commission by sharing ideas and executing the Cultural Arts Commission's mission to "connect and build community among local artists of all ages to encourage and support artist education and development."
What qualifies you for this appointment?
Since I was a very young child, I have always had a love and passion for art and wanted to use my skills to help people, which is why I pursued graphic design for my studies at the College of San Mateo and San José State. From my job at the Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center, a non-profit funded by San Mateo County and the City of South San Francisco, located at the Economic Advancement Center, I have gained knowledge about the local government and have begun to build relationships with city officials. I also continue to work with clients, creating graphics and teaching them graphic design. My experience as an extended care staff at the Carey School has shown me how important art and other creative outlets are important to children's education. I continue to volunteer for Ballet Folklorico as well, creating designs for them. These reasons in addition to how South San Francisco has always been a part of my life is why I am qualified for this position.
What is your vision for growth in South San Francisco?
I envision more art and music programs and events for residents of all ages to enjoy and of all ages to be a part of.

What community activities are you presently involved in, or have been in the past? I was a part of the Reading Partners, a non-profit that aims to improve reading and writing skills for elementary school children, for a few months at Los Cerritos Elementary while I was attending classes at the College of San Mateo. I currently work for the Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center, so 1 am involved in many community activities such as this year's National Night Out in SSF and Family Resource Day in Daly City. I also have assisted in managing Renaissance vendors at the San Mateo County Fair and created promotional materials for numerous events such as our Renaissance Winter Pop-up that runs at the same time as Santa Comes to Town.
