SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE
Why do you want to serve on the Youth Commission? Why do you believe the Youth Commission is important?
For 15 years, South San Francisco has been my family's home. We have seen it go from a quiet little city where you could find parking at Trader Joe's any day of the week to a bustling city where you sometimes have to time your outings based on both car and foot traffic. With the city evolving as rapidly as it is, it is up to us, the youth, to manage and guide the city to its future. Growing up, I was a part of numerous South San Francisco Parks and Rec programs, and those summers and those classes make up many of the happy memories i lave in this city. As such, I would like to help foster the growth of the city so that other children can have similar experiences and come to love the city as I have, rather than getting lost in a growing sea of people.

SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE
Please list school and community activities or service organizations in which you are involved in.

Founder and President of El Camino High School's "College Prep Club" (60 members Co-founder and Vice-President of El Camino High School's "Public Speaking Club" (4 members)
- 100 hours (and counting) of writing youth book reviews for the South San Francisco Public Library
- Ongoing private tennis lessons (via SSF Parks and Rec) The Youth Commission addresses issues affecting youth and the community through making recommendations to City Council. Please explain what you believe is the biggest issue concering youth in South San Francisco today.

From its nickname "The Industrial City" to the large presence of biotech giants such as Genentech, South San Francisco exudes the energy of a hardworking, prepared city. But a lack of care and preparation for the future is something see far too often among the youth that make up our home. With little to no semblance of a plan for life after school, many students combat this exact problem. I aimed to find like-minded students, who wanted t repare for their futures but were unsure how to start. I firmly believe that the consistency of ngoing preparation is how people succeed, and I'd like to see that positive change in Sout an Francisco's vouth, to see a challenge and not shy away from its seemingl Can you commit to attending 6:30 p.m. meetings on the third Monday of each month? SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE
Why are you interested in serving as a Boards and Commissions member? What do you feel you could contribute?
remember. I would like to continue and expand that involvement with the library board cording to its website, the library board aims to "develop a plan of service", "evaluate and advise council and staff on th eed for services and programs", and "adop! policies as necessary for the administration of the library". What this tells m ¡is that the library board's main focus is on community engagement. in my experience, while adults and younger kids readily embrace the library, teenagers are much harder to draw in. As a teenager myself, I acknowledge the fact that teenagers are quite finicky and like things to be a certain way, and I beliove that having the perspective of a teenager could help Identify these preferences. A room full of adults is much less likaly to fully understand the nuances of teenagers, than if that same room were to fold in an inside perspective as an active participant in the conversation. 1 believe I could fill that hole and help the library board achieve its goals. The library has done so much for me, and would love for a chance to retum the favor.

What qualifies you for this appointment?
Despite my young age, I am and have been active in the South San Francisco community for most of my life. Inside school, I have played four different sports and currently hold office positions in two clubs. Outside of school, the South San Francisco Parks and Rec has been integral in my development. From seven years of summer camp to five years of private clarinet lessons to ongoing private tennis lessons, I have been exposed to many facets of the South San Francisco community. With such a wide exposure to the city that nearly 60 thousand people call home, I believe that I would be able to provide good insight on how to best engage the community.

What is your vision for growth in South San Francisco?
When I was younger, the library was my favorite place to be. I loved grabbing piles of books, sitting down, and diving into their stories, so much so that it was often my one grievance with teachers in school: that I always hid a book in my lap to read during class. But as I got older I, like many, began to visit the library less and less often; I lost the passion once had for reading, replacing it with the more immediate gratifications or flashier stimuli in the form of electronics. Recently, the newly built South San Francisco Public Library opened, and with that, I have witnessed a rekindled interest in the library and its services among my peers. It has now become commonplace for my peers to study and even hang out in the new building. While this new uptake in the library's offerings is wonderful, I have noticed that many people are focusing more on the community center aspect of the building rather than the library itself, and | hope to re-establish this new building as not just a community center but as an actual library. I would like to draw in more tweens and teens into the countless shelves of books and rekindle an interest in both reading and building a sense of community. They've stepped into the building, but now they need the push, a few extra steps towards the library wing. 2 The City of South San Francisco
