IN RECOGNITION OF NATIONAL MOSQUITO CONTROL
AWARENESS WEEK JUNE 16 – 22, 2024
WHEREAS, The American Mosquito Control Association has declared the week of June 16-22, 2024 as National Mosquito Control Awareness Week; and WHEREAS, excess numbers of mosquitoes and other vectors spread diseases such as West Nile virus, dengue virus, and malaria, reduce enjoyment of outdoor recreation, hinder outdoor work, and decrease livestock productivity; and WHEREAS, in collaboration with other agencies, the San Mateo County Mosquito and Vector Control District’s mission is to safeguard the health and comfort of people in San Mateo County through a science-based program of integrated vector management; and
WHEREAS, “National Mosquito Control Awareness Week” will increase the public’s awareness of the threat of diseases, will encourage the public to take action in preventing mosquito-transmitted diseases, and will highlight the activities of the various mosquito and vector research and control agencies working to minimize the health threat within California.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of South San Francisco declare June 16-22, 2024, as “Mosquito Control Awareness Week” and we thank the San Mateo County Mosquito and Vector Control District and we encourage all community members to stay informed on mosquito and vector prevention. ________________________________
