SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE
Why are you interested in serving as a Boards and Commissions member? What do you feel you could contribute?
I am a 2023 graduate of the South San Francisco Citizens' Academy. This program inspired me to be active in my local government and being part of a Board or Commission offers me a unique opportunity to directly contribute to the betterment of our city. With a passion for collaboration, problem-solving, and innovation, I am eager to leverage my skills and experiences to address the diverse needs of our residents and help shape an equitable and brighter future for all.

What qualifies you for this appointment?
My lived personal and professional experiences have instilled in me a deep sense of empathy and a commitment to breaking barriers for the most vulnerable populations, and ensuring an equitable future where everyone can thrive. I pride myself on creating professional partnerships to achieve successful outcomes. I am not afraid to speak up, challenge, and share alternate perspectives. I am passionate about immigrant parents with limited English proficiency and education. This presented me with unique challenges that shaped my perspective and resilience. From navigating complex systems like education and healthcare to serving as a cultural liaison for my family, I learned early on the importance of adaptability and advocacy. People with my lived experience and cultural understanding must have a voice at the table where strategies and decisions are being made that impact diverse SSF communities.

What is your vision for growth in South San Francisco?
SSF is a vibrant community made up of people from all walks of life. My vision for growth in SSF is to cultivate a thriving, inclusive, and sustainable environment that harnesses innovation and community spirit. I see a city where every resident, regardless of background, has access to quality education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. A city that prioritizes clean energy to ensure a healthy, resilient future. By fostering a culture of collaboration between residents, businesses, and government, we can create vibrant neighborhoods, support local entrepreneurs, and champion social equity. 2 The City of South San Francisco

What community activities are you presently involved in, or have been in the past? My community involvement work aligns with my passions for inclusion and health equity. I have previous experience volunteering at a suicide hotline, validating the experiences of, often marginalized individuals, going through mental health crises and making real-time intervention assessments of self-harm. I've mentored local South San Francisco students from historically underserved communities, intended to get the next generation excited about STEM careers. I have served as an applicant reviewer for the Chicana Latina Foundation Leadership & Scholarship Program, which is designed to promote equity and justice by providing merit-based scholarships to Chicana and Latina women who have demonstrated leadership qualities.
