Subject: Facilitator
To: Coleman, James <[email protected]>, Flores, Eddie <[email protected]>, [email protected] <[email protected]>, Nicolas, Flor <[email protected]>, Mark Nagales <[email protected]> Cc: Acosta, Rosa <[email protected]>, Ranals, Sharon <[email protected]> Attending city council and planning commission meetings since 2022 when we learned the MSB was included in the housing element, now you are seeking to contract with a "facilitator" to decide the fate of the Municipal Services Building.
I spoke with Ms. Nell Selander at the August 16th uncil meeting asking if the city was obligated to pay the "facilitator" if it was decided not to g rward, and she assured me the city had no obligation contractually should the city council withdraw this optiol Why is this even going forward? You have heard from the residents that they want the MSB removed from the housing element, yet not until the Gaza resolution have you even acknowledged your constituents. Was it out of embarrassment that you have ignored and disregarded us? Nevertheless, you have seen the outcry from the residents, you know Magnolia/Teglia Center is insufficient as a senior community center, you know that the Civic Center Campus is not a community center, yet you are proceeding with the wasteful $40,000 for a facilitator. Some of your constituents are living on $40,000 and less yearly.
All that you needed to do was take this one building, the Municipal Services Building, out of the housing element.
Besides the growing lies and misrepresentations concerning the condition of the MSB, or that 188,000 residents were disregarded when this was the community center since 1979 until its closure in October 2023, or that the city manager has made it clear it is her goal to make sure it is not reopened and staffed, let alone the rumors that are now circulating in the community that it will be demolished by the end of the year, how is it even conceivable the residents will have a fair and unbiased "facilitator" and "outreach"? So, therefore, 1 must ask:
What is the purpose of the facilitator?
What is the facilitator facilitating?
Is it because it's an election year that you are pretending to give credence to your constituents? This is a dog and pony show to convince yourselves you've done your due diligence with the future of the MSB when, in fact, it will be a tainted survey with cherry-picked questions and directed answers.
If you were being honorable in this scenario, you would have removed the MSB from the housing element long ago to discuss its future.
