2 SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE
Please list school and community activities or service organizations in which you are involved in.

The Youth Commission addresses issues affecting youth and the community through making recommendations to City Council. Please explain what you believe is the biggest issue concerning youth in South San Francisco today.

Can you commit to attending 6:30 p.m. meetings on the third Monday of each month? YES NO If no, please explain:

Yearbook Club - Member, Class Participant, Photographer - Coordinated a group of 75+ students and staff to take their photos and portraits to showcase them within the yearbook. Specifically took pictures during engaging events such as rallies, annual Spring on the Green event, sporting events, and other occasions upon request. - Captured significant photographs of others in memorable events, creating memories, and an everlasting impact on those reflecting on each page of where the pictures were placed. - Designed and spearheaded a group of peers in order to create advertisements such as hand-made posters to promote yearbook events and pictures. These forms of advertisements were seen by the majority of the student body.

I believe that incorporating affordable and supportive after-school and or weekend programs for kids and teens are needed to support the youth living within the City of South San Francisco or SSFUSD School District. Many youth, especially those with parents and or guardians who have work and or work schedules that don’t align within the ability to provide interactive activities or be able to coordinate work with child’s enjoyment are in need of a supportive, inclusive and safe environment to express themselves and build key soft skills that will support them in the future.

Additionally, having a lack of after-school and weekend programs also takes away a chance for youth to interact with their peers, build new friendships, and express themselves in a safe environment that fosters their mental wellbeing. In additon, with support from adults or professional educators, allows for youth to have a person to support them academically, emotionally, and professionally.

One way to help improve and to supply this need is by, organizing program with local support systems and programs such as the Boys and Girls Club of the peninsula and the community learning center to provide an affordable alternative in which helps youth with homework, provides support with possible future career goals, provide a space to interact and meet other youth within the same age group, work collaboratively on activities such as homework, puzzles, arts and craft, etc.

By addressing the lack of after-school and weekend programs, I would advocate for spaces that promote student sucess, support parents and guadrians, all while creating an environment that fosters creativity, collaboration, and innovation. As a Youth Commissioner, I would make sure every youth in South San Francisco and within the SSFUSD School District and parent/guardian has access to the physical and educational resources necessary to thrive.
