2 SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE
Why are you interested in serving as a Boards and Commissions member? What do you feel you could contribute?
What qualifies you for this appointment?
What is your vision for growth in South San Francisco?
I believe it is each citizens duty to serve their communities as much as they can, additionally a great city has a great civil service ethic. I want to serve on a commission because I believe in South San Francisco. I have been raised here and it is my duty to give back to the community. I hope to use my knowledge of the city, from layout to people, to improve South City. Our city already is a great example for the bay area, and the best city in san mateo county. We have tackled housing and social welfare far better than the rest of San Mateo county, with less resources.
I want to help South City continue on this path. As a college student I am able to provide a younger generation view and opinion. I also am a student, meaning I spend too much time at cafes and the library studying. I very often go to the library to study, both the main library and the grand ave. branch. While our library system is amazing, there is always room for improvement and as a frequent visitor I believe, I have the experience to speak on what to improve.
I love our libraries and go all the time. I spend an unhealthy amount there and know what the facilities are like from where the best spots for studying are to where the best books are kept. (it's the history section in the back left corner of the main adult library, by the stairs). I know which books we need to have, and what our facilities need for our community.
Additionally, most of my free time is spent with other city activities and events. I try to go to local events as much as possible and they tend to be at the library, like the art shows. For the past 3 years I have spent about 5-10 hours a week in the library, studying, finishing work, or just resting from the amount of work. Now that I am in college I can understand what is best for our libraries, and have time to help!
My vision for South City is more community. I want our city to have more events, more volunteering, and civic motivation, but especially better, and more access to resources. The libraries do that for the people of south san francisco. Every highschooler, every middle schooler, every parent and adult, all have been to our libraries; whether it be for ballet practice or to check out a book to read. We should continue the access to recourse and education. One policy I hold with me that I have gained from school, is that libraries should have more academic books, both research and textbooks, at the same time more skill workshops and entry level educational resources. Libraries should both be a tool for entry level learners, as well as a second resource for later level learning. Both have outcomes of bettering the lives of the people of South City, and fostering more community.
