The Youth Commission addresses issues affecting youth and the community through making recommendations to City Council. Please explain what you believe is the biggest issue concerning youth in South San Francisco today.
Can you commit to attending 6:30 p.m. meetings on the third Monday of each month? YES NO If no, please explain:
1) Student Leadership: Plan and organize school events, provide campus tours for potential transfer students, foster school spirit.
2) Class Office Treasurer: Manage class funds, monitor budget, make financial decisions. 3) Business Club Member: Participate in competitions, strengthen business skills. 4) Fundraising: Plan and initiate fundraising events to support class activities.
One of the biggest issues affecting youth today is the state of their safety and mental health.
People my age are becoming more involved in political issues, which can be empowering but also dangerous. For example, the recent protest against ICE led thousands of students to walk out of class. While this demonstrated bravery and awareness, it also put the participants’ physical safety at risk. At the same time, many adolescents face emotional distress and anxiety caused not only by global issues, but also by social media and academic pressure. With so many challenges, it can feel overwhelming, especially without any support.
