Why do you want to serve on the Youth Commission? Why do you believe the Youth Commission is important?
I want to give back to the City of South San Francisco because it's the place that has shaped who I am and given me and my family so many opportunities. I've lived my entire life in South City, and giving back to my community gives me a sense of purpose and belonging while allowing me to make a positive difference in people's lives. I feel good when I volunteer or help with local projects, like habitat restoration days with my mom. I learn important skills like leadership, teamwork, and communication that will help me in the future. By contributing, I can help strengthen my community and create a better environment for everyone. One way I'm doing that now is by starting an initative that gives away free native plants in my neighborhood. This creates a more beautiful neighborhood that encourages pollination and native gardens. It's also a great way for me to meet new people, build connections, and feel proud of the impact I'm making. Ultimately, giving back helps me grow as a person while making the world around me a better place.The Youth Commission is important because it serves as the voice for the youth and helps inform decisions that will impact the next generation of residents.

Please list school and community activities or service organizations in which you are involved in.
At Sacred Heart Cathedral, I am on the JV Girls' Basketball team and Varsity Girls' Softball team. I also play for the Pacifica Sirens Softball team. I am also a member of Latinos Unidos and the Finance Club. This year, I started an initiative called "South City Blooms" in my neighborhood that gives away free native plants and encourages removal of invasive plant species. My mom works for the City of Brisbane, so I help her when she puts on restoration habitat days at San Bruno Mountain.
The Youth Commission addresses issues affecting youth and the community through making recommendations to City Council. Please explain what you believe is the biggest issue concerning youth in South San Francisco today.
It would be great if there was more for teens to do in South City. There's lots of things for little kids to do but not much for tweens and teens. For example, I wanted to play softball for South City, but there wasn't a league so I now play for the Pacifica Sirens. While I go to school in San Francisco, most of my friends also live in South City and there isn't much for us to do. I think that can cause kids to get into trouble or cause them just to be on their phones. I would love to help get more activities started for older kids and teens going ir South City
