RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO CELEBRATING THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF UNITED AIRLINES
WHEREAS, United Airlines was founded in 1926 and has grown to become one of the world’s leading airlines, connecting communities across the United States and around the globe; and WHEREAS, for a century United Airlines has played a critical role in advancing commerce, tourism, and cultural exchange, serving as a powerful economic engine that drives regional prosperity and connects the Bay Area to the global economy; and WHEREAS, United Airlines is a major employer and workforce development leader, providing high-quality careers, investing in training, apprenticeship, and advancement opportunities, and supporting a diverse and highly skilled workforce across the Bay Area and beyond; and WHEREAS, United Airlines’ significant presence at San Francisco International Airport contributes to the strength of the Peninsula’s economy, supporting local industries, small businesses, and the innovation ecosystem that defines South San Francisco as “The Industrial City”; and
WHEREAS, through its global network, United Airlines enhances the region’s competitiveness, facilitates business growth, and fuels the tourism sector that supports economic vitality throughout San Mateo County; and
WHEREAS, United Airlines has demonstrated sustained corporate leadership through innovation, operational excellence, environmental stewardship, and a strong commitment to community partnership and civic engagement; and
WHEREAS, the City of South San Francisco recognizes the essential role that global aviation leaders like United Airlines play in fostering economic development, expanding workforce opportunities, and strengthening the region’s connectivity and quality of life; and WHEREAS, the year 2026 marks the Centennial Anniversary of United Airlines, representing 100 years of innovation, service, and leadership in aviation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of South San Francisco hereby congratulates United Airlines on its 100th Anniversary and celebrates its century of corporate leadership in aviation, its role as a powerful economic engine and driver of tourism, its commitment to workforce development and quality job creation, and its enduring contributions to connecting communities and strengthening the global competitiveness and economic vitality of South San Francisco and the greater Bay Area.
