RECOGNITION OF JUNE AS LGBTQIA+ PRIDE MONTH
JUNE 2026
WHEREAS, Pride Month is a time to recall the trials the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Asexual (LGBTQIA+) community has endured and to rejoice in the triumphs of trailblazing individuals who have bravely fought – and continue to fight – for full equality; and WHEREAS, during LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, we recognize the resilience and determination of the many individuals who are fighting to live freely and authentically. In doing so, they are opening hearts and minds, and laying the foundation for a more just and equitable America; and
WHEREAS, the LGBTQIA+ community has worked tirelessly for respect and equality. Their battles have been fought in the courts, from marriage equality to demanding equal protection under the law; and
WHEREAS, today, the rights of LGBTQIA+ Americans are under relentless attack and with the theme of both “Resistance in Action” and “Resistance & Joy” for 2026 Pride Month, this is a call to action to highlight the power of unity and embrace our diversity, while championing love, and equality; and
WHEREAS, in South San Francisco we celebrate and support our LGBTQIA+ community’s rights and remember that Pride Month is a joyful and colorful display of love, unity, and resilience, with events and activities that promote inclusivity, educate the public, and celebrate the diversity of sexual orientations and gender identities.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of South San Francisco does hereby proclaim June as LGBTQIA+ Pride Month by flying the Traditional Pride flag at City Hall for the month of June, in addition to raising the Transgender Flag on our City Hall balcony on November 20. We affirm our obligation to uphold the dignity of all people and dedicate ourselves to protecting the more vulnerable among us.
