The Youth Commission addresses issues affecting youth and the community through making recommendations to City Council. Please explain what you believe is the biggest issue concerning youth in South San Francisco today.

Middle College Program at Skyline College, Mock Trial, Kingdom Club, McGregor Law Corp, League of Women Voters North and Central San Mateo County I believe the biggest issue concerning youth in South San Francisco is the lack of career and college guidance. There are programs like Future Grads that explain what college is and the types of colleges, but in my friends and I's experiences, there is no guidance or class to teach us how to acctually apply and get scholarships. This can be very overwhelming and cause burnout to students. It also makes them feel unmotivated, but many people percieve that as lazy, when in reality they simply do not know how to apply and go through the whole process. This then leads to a lack of academic drive and many people choose to go to safer schools like community colleges when they are very much capable of a more presitgious school. I acknoweldge that finances come as a barrier, but with the guidance of scholarship applications, that can also be overcame.
