augers. Traffic control with flaggers and appropriate traffic control devices would be utilized to provide a safe working area for the drilling rig, support equipment, pedestrians, and vehicular traffic. Soil samples would be collected from the borings at various intervals or at significant changes in lithology by using a modified California split spoon sampler and/or Standard Penetration Test sampler. Soil samples from the field exploration would be taken to our laboratory for additional classification and testing to determine the engineering properties of the on-site soils. Selected soil samples would be tested for in-situ dry densities, natural moisture content, and Resistance values. Prior to the field explorations, WKA would obtain a soil boring permit from the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (SJCEHD) and an encroachment permit from the City of Stockton. A traffic control plan would be prepared and submitted with the encroachment permit application. WKA will also mark the boring locations and contact Underground Service Alert to identify existing underground utility lines within the proposed exploration locations. A private utility locator will be retained to assist in identifying any existing underground utility that may conflict with the proposed boring locations. At the completion of the borings, the boreholes would be grout backfilled with a slurry of neat cement, bentonite, and water as required by SJCEHD. Borings drilled in the pavement areas would be restored to grade with a non-shrink grout, dyed black to match the existing pavements. Soil cuttings from the boreholes would be placed in labeled, 55-gallon metal drums to be temporarily stored at an approved area provided by the City. Samples of the soil cuttings would be collected for waste characterization purposes. Once the laboratory analytical test results are received, WKA would coordinate the removal and disposal of the investigation-derived waste at an appropriate facility. The results of the field exploration and laboratory testing would be analyzed, and a pavement rehabilitation report prepared for the proposed improvements presenting:vicinity map;site Plan showing approximate boring locations;logs of borings;laboratory test results;findings regarding site, soil, and groundwater conditions; andconclusions and recommendations including excavation conditions, material suitability for backfill construction, pavement subgrade qualities, effect of groundwater on site development, preliminary soil corrosion potential, pavement design based on various traffic indices, and site drainage.Assumptions:WKA will take precautions not to disturb underground utilities that are clearly marked in the field or brought to our attention; however, we cannot be responsible for damage to unmarked underground utilities or those that are not known to us. Assumed that the drummed soil cuttings would be characterized as non-hazardous waste and -appointment event by WKAssubcontractor. Costs for special pick up of the drum would incur an appointment fee by the subcontractor. These additional costs would be billed on a time-and-expense basis. Assumed that contaminated soils would not be . Costs City would provide a pre-approved designated area onsite to store the drummed IDW. Anticipate one drum of IDW would need onsite storage for about two to three weeks.4.2 Life Cycle Cost AnalysisCSG will explore possible rehabilitation options, including pulverization and resurfacing, milling and filling, conventional HMA & RHMA overlays, cold-in-place recycling (CIR) and full depth replacement to strengthen existing pavement sections that are failing.
