DELTA WATER TREATMENT PLANT GROUNDWATER RECHARGE PROJECT Council Water Committee
June 9, 2022
Agenda Item No. 3.1
Overview
Project Goal – Successful groundwater recharge and recovery using multiple water supply sources to provide greater drought resiliency and aid in groundwater basin recovery Available Surface Waters:
San Joaquin River (Water Right Permit 21176)
Woodbridge Irrigation District
Lodi Stormwater
Project Description
Constructing up to a 70-acre groundwater recharge basin on City property adjacent to the Delta Water Treatment Plant (DWTP).
The project will be completed in two phases
Phase I - Geotechnical Investigation
Determine the feasibility of constructing the recharge basin.
Phase II – Design & Construction
If the site is suitable for groundwater recharge.
City of Stockton
North Stockton and South Stockton are served by City of Stockton Municipal Utilities Department (COSMUD) Central Stockton area is served by California Water Service Company DWTP
Collaboration with Other Agencies
Collaboration with Woodbridge Irrigation District
Groundwater recharge projects located near the proposed DWTP site including:
Cannery Park Northwest and Northeast sites (15 acres)
City’s La Morada Stormwater Detention Basin #2 site (15 acres) Previous technical studies by the USGS demonstrated that groundwater recharge was feasible.
Tracer studies indicated the basins were hydraulically connected to local municipal groundwater wells.
Location of the DWTP and Basins
Recent data show the groundwater elevation has risen by approximately 14-feet
Proposed Recharge Basin Location
This project consists of constructing up to 70-acre groundwater recharge basin
