Please tell us about yourself and why you want to serve.
I have accumulated over two decades of experience in municipal utilities and public works, with a specialization in Environmental Compliance focusing on Pretreatment and Stormwater management. Currently, I work for the City of Los Banos and I am entrusted with overseeing various divisions, including Water Quality Services, Wastewater Treatment Operations, Utilities Maintenance/Collections, and management programs for Stormwater, Industrial Waste Pretreatment, and Fats, Oils, and Grease. Although I am no longer employed by the City of Stockton's Municipal Utilities Department, I remain committed to serving the citizens of Stockton, and this role provides me with an avenue to continue doing so.
Please state the reason you would like to be a member of this board/commission.
I am interested in becoming a member of this board because of my strong commitment to serving the community. With over two decades of experience in municipal utilities and public works, particularly in environmental compliance and water management, I believe I can contribute valuable expertise to the board's initiatives and decisions. Additionally, I have a deep-rooted desire to continue serving the citizens of Stockton, and being a part of this board/commission would allow me to fulfill that commitment effectively.

Please tell us about yourself and why you want to serve.
My name is Samantha Johnson, and I am currently pursuing my Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree at USC Sol Price School of Public Policy (Sacramento). Hailing from Stockton, California, my roots run deep in community activism. This passion has been the driving force behind my academic pursuits and my commitment to effecting positive change. My journey in public service began during my undergraduate years at California State University, Stanislaus, where I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology.
Throughout my time there, I actively engaged with various community initiatives in San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties, particularly focusing on empowering youth. Whether it was in the classroom or within the foster care system, I dedicated myself to advocating for the needs of underserved children, striving to provide them with the support and resources they deserve. Currently, I have the privilege of serving as the president of the Black Price Society at USC, where I continue to advocate for social justice and equity within our institution and beyond. My goal is not only to uplift the voices of marginalized communities but also to actively work towards dismantling systemic barriers that hinder their progress. Upon completing my MPA degree, my vision is to channel my energy and expertise into the realm of non-profit organizations and in local government. I am deeply committed to collaborating with these organizations to develop and implement programs that equip youth from underserved backgrounds with the necessary life skills to thrive and succeed. I firmly believe that investing in our youth is not just an investment in their future, but in the future of our society as a whole. Ultimately, my desire to serve stems from a profound conviction that every individual deserves access to opportunities and resources that enable them to reach their full potential. By working tirelessly to address systemic injustices and empower those who have been marginalized, I hope to contribute to the creation of a more just and equitable society for all.
Please state the reason you would like to be a member of this board/commission.
I am eager to be a member of the Cultural Heritage Board and Community Development Committee because I believe in the power of preserving and celebrating the diverse cultural heritage within our community. Growing up in Stockton, California, my passion for community activism has instilled in me a deep appreciation for the rich tapestry of cultures that contribute to our collective identity. My academic journey, particularly in Sociology and Public Administration, has further reinforced the importance of fostering inclusivity and understanding among diverse communities. As a member of these boards, I aim to leverage my experience in advocating for underserved populations to ensure that cultural heritage preservation efforts are equitable and inclusive. I am committed to collaborating with stakeholders to develop initiatives that not only celebrate our cultural diversity but also promote economic and social development within our neighborhoods. Furthermore, I believe that community development is intricately linked to cultural preservation. By actively engaging with local organizations and government agencies, I aspire to facilitate initiatives that empower residents to take pride in their heritage while also fostering sustainable growth and opportunity for future generations. In essence, my desire to serve on these boards stems from a belief in the transformative power of cultural heritage preservation and community development. I am dedicated to working collaboratively with fellow members to create an environment where all residents feel valued, represented, and empowered to contribute to the vibrancy of our community.
