Resolution No.
STOCKTON CITY COUNCIL
APPROVE TEAM LEASE AGREEMENT BETWEEN BASKETBALL DEVELOPMENT LLC AND THE CITY OF STOCKTON FOR THE USE OF ADVENTIST HEALTH ARENA AS THE HOME COURT FOR THE STOCKTON KINGS The Adventist Health Arena, formerly the Stockton Arena, was constructed in 2005 with the intent of accommodating a wide range of events and activities, including sports, and family entertainment; and Basketball Development LLC (Sacramento Kings) moved their NBA G League team (Stockton Kings) to Stockton in 2016 and wish to continue in the Adventist Health Arena (Arena). The City has capacity in the Arena to accommodate the G League season which plays 25 home games, late September through April; and The City and the Sacramento Kings have reached consensus on the terms of the Team Lease Agreement; and The NBA G League, formerly the NBA Development League (NBA D-League), is the NBA’s official minor league. The league prepares players, coaches, officials, trainers, and front-office staff for the NBA while acting as the league’s research and development laboratory; and The City will not only benefit from increased rental of the Arena, but also in maintaining a home team for the Arena and City, adding yet another entertainment/recreational option for the community and creating positive exposure for Stockton; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF STOCKTON, AS FOLLOWS:
The City Council of the City of Stockton hereby approves the execution of a Team Lease Agreement with Basketball Development LLC (Sacramento Kings), pursuant to terms substantially similar in form to Exhibit 1 of this Resolution, incorporated by this reference, for the use of the Adventist Health Arena as home court for the Sacramento Kings’ NBA G League.
The City Manager is authorized to exercise available options to extend the term of the lease by written amendment, not to go beyond the term stated in the lease.
A “Notice of Intent to Lease Real Property Interest” will be published in The Record at least ten days prior to the execution of the Lease, as required by Charter section 510.
4. The City Manager, or designee, is authorized to take whatever actions are necessary and appropriate to carry out the purpose and intent of this Resolution.
