I've been a lifelong Stocktonian resident with an undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies and graduate degree in Water and Environmental Law. For the last three years, I've been serving the Stockton community professionally as an Environmental Justice Program Coordinator doing community engagement, outreach, and education on policies that affect the local communities. Therefore, I would like to use my knowledge and experience to drive an impactful outcome to the climate action plan.
Please state the reason you would like to be a member of this board/commission.
I would like to use my expertise to bring about a just and sustainable climate action plan for Stockton to ensure that we are moving in a direction that allows economic growth meanwhile being environmentally sustainable.

I am a fourth generation Stocktonian that went away for school and returned for family which was recently granted Founding Family of San Joaquin County status. I began my professional science training at Indiana University, Bloomington (B.S. Microbiology), continued graduate studies here in Stockton at the University of the Pacific (M.S. Biological Science/Physical and Life Science teaching credentials) and at the University of California, Davis (M.S. Hydrologic Science). I became involved with environmental issues specifically water quality and waste discharges after working for McCormick and Baxter Creosoting Company as a quality control chemist. I subsequently became a Registered Environmental Health Specialist and worked for San Joaquin County on contaminated site cleanups. I went back to school and earned a Master of Hydrologic Science degree from the University of California Davis from which I was recruited to work for a consulting firm. I found that I missed the teaching aspect of my graduate program. I began to use my teaching credentials that I earned many years before and have continued working in the field of education. I want to serve because I want to be part of the positive changes happening in Stockton, increasing public participation, and to represent various groups in the community including environmental and disadvantaged communities. A climate adaptation and resiliency plan is a step in the City's effort to develop an energy resilient community reducing greenhouse gases and developing clean energy jobs.

While in Sacramento, when opportunities arose to use my science skills outside of teaching, I took advantage and did consulting work if the project fit into my schedule. Since I have moved to Stockton and now that I am working at the School for Adults two evenings a week and a month during summer break, I have stopped pursuing those outside assignments.
Nevertheless, I still very much enjoy the technical aspects of environmental project planning and implementation and have time to pursue those interests. After returning to Stockton, I have returned to doing conservation work for the Sierra Club, Delta Sierra Group Conservation Chair. I have been increasingly involved with groundwater planning in the Eastern San Joaquin Subbasin since the development of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act in 2014 attending meetings, working with NGOs, and providing comments, serving on the San Joaquin Advisory Water Commission. I am also a member of the AB617 Steering Committee involved with developing and implementing projects to improve air quality within the Stockton project boundaries. I have attended a community choice citizen advisory meeting online and am available during the meeting times. I am knowledgeable of technical and regulatory issues. I want to ask the questions that will help more of our residents understand these issues and get more involved. Good public outreach and involvement efforts are necessary to have a strong sense of community and a successful program implementation.

I am retired from the State of California after a 35+ year career where the majority of my time was spent as the District 10 Director of Administration, acting District Director, and later at the HQ level as Chief of Strategic Planning and Performance Management. While performing my duties as Director of Admin, I became proficient in budgetary oversight. I have a keen sense for fiscal responsibility, and a passion for governmental transparency and accountability. Additionally, during my 35-year career, I had extensive involvement in capital project planning and development where I had to work closely with cities and counties on the development and implementation of local and regional matters. This work required a working knowledge of policies, rules, and regulations and how to interpret and apply them. I truly enjoyed my time as a civil servant and like to stay active/informed by attending various Council and committee meetings. I am very interested in City of Stockton’s governance and would like to serve my community at the local level. Currently I serve as the Board President for Tree Stockton, a non-profit organization focused on the preservation and enhancement of the City’s urban forest.
Please state the reason you would like to be a member of this board/commission.
I have a keen interest in the betterment and future development of the City of Stockton. I want to use my 35 years of professional government experience and my personal interest in the environment to help Stockton become a healthier city and develop the plan and programs necessary to address current and future climate and environmental issues.

My name is Tim Robertson and I am executive director of the San Joaquin Building Trades Council. Though I have long been a part of the Stockton community, I have recently move to the city and am looking to get even more involved. I'm passionate about the pursuit of practical and effective solutions to climate change given the real impact city residents are facing and the potential for worsening conditions long term. As an advocate for workers and their families, I am committed to ensure that climate policy provides increased economic and job opportunities in order to uplift our communities and am very versed in the intersection between environmental and economic justice. I am currently serving on multiple committees that are exploring responsible climate change development, including one convened by Lawrence Livermore Laboratory and another by the University of California - Berkeley. Further, I serve on the Steering Committee for North Valley Thrive, which is exploring regional strategies for carbon management and clean energy development. I am also well connected to the community and work well with various individuals and organizations that are interested in climate policy and I work to build consensus when possible, but am comfortable with differing opinions and disagreeing respectfully. I'm also comfortable working with elected officials and public agencies in pursuit of equitable climate development.

I am passionate about helping reverse some of the generational challenges many Stockton residents face. Most health and economic metrics demonstrate that systemic issues make it harder for the average Stockton resident to thrive than in other places. There are solutions, but they will require a focused community leadership that can cut through historical divisions. Bringing people and entities together to improve lives is both my day job and my passion. Leveraging new public and private investment in climate solutions is a once in a generation opportunity for our communities to improve the health of our residents while boosting economic opportunities. As I am already heavily engaged and committed to this work, I would be honored and thrilled to bring my perspective to the Climate Action Plan Community Advisory Committee.
