I have always thought that you need to give back to your community that you live in. So after I retired from the Port of Stockton in 2023 I went to Pet Grooming College and after a year earned my license and certification to groom dogs. I love to volunteer and provide my grooming services to the local dog rescue clinics. I currently have the financial ability to rescue dogs so I do spend a couple of hours a day grooming dogs and finding them homes. I feel that I have the time needed to give as a Port Commissioner and I truly understand the Port needs. As an example: I personally wrote the Ports Conveyance Plan for the Army Sharp Depot. This plan was recognized by MARAD as one of the best received and they wanted to use it as template. I wrote the Ports Strategic Plan in 2021 that is utilized to this day. I wrote and managed over $400 million in Port infrastructure, emergency management, and clean energy grants. I want to serve so I can bring all of my leadership skills and my years of experience at the Port of Stockton to benefit the Port , and help the Port sustain itself and assist for their future growth.

I have served on several and different Boards for years, and I understand the communication and leadership skills it takes to accomplish this. I believe I can provide insight to the Port Commissioners and assist Port leadership with strategic planning, Army Sharp Depot Conveyance Plan, grants management, and emergency management. It would be an honor to serve as a commissioner and to give back to my community.
Have you served on an advisory group before?

If yes, please explain.
Besides leading advisory committees as a Executive Director, such as the City of Stocktons Transposition Committee for the Disabled. I also served on Modesto's City Council Advisory Committee on how to meet and serve the homeless needs in the Stanislaus community.
There were a lot of hotly contested comments from the public over the one-year service but what I found interesting was that almost everyone wanted to help the homeless as long as it was not in their back yard.

I want to serve on the Port of Stockton Commission because Stockton deserves leaders who understand both the operational realities of large institutions and the lived experiences of local families. Throughout my career, I have worked at the intersection of compliance, public service, and community mental health—roles that demand accountability, transparent decision-making, and a strong commitment to equity. I believe the Port can be a force for economic opportunity and environmental responsibility, and I hope to contribute a voice that centers wellness, community engagement, and inclusive growth. My goal is to help ensure that the Port’s progress benefits all residents of Stockton.

Please tell us about yourself and why you want to serve.
My name is Joshua Renwick, and I am a lifelong resident of Stockton and a current member of ILWU Local 54. Prior to my work in the maritime industry, I spent 12 years as an educator with the San Joaquin County Office of Education, serving as a classroom teacher. This combination of public service and industry experience has shaped my commitment to our community and deepened my understanding of the issues that affect working families. I am passionate about the Port of Stockton and the vital role it plays in our region. I regularly attend Port Commission meetings and events, and I follow each meeting closely online. I believe strongly in the importance of having a diverse range of perspectives represented on the Commission. My background as both an educator and a longshoreman gives me a unique viewpoint on workforce development, community engagement, and the operational needs of the Port. Having worked at multiple ports across California, including Oakland, Los Angeles, West Sacramento, and San Diego, I have seen firsthand the potential for growth, innovation, and economic impact within this industry. I believe the Port of Stockton has tremendous opportunity ahead, and I am committed to helping it grow, flourish, and continue providing high-quality jobs for our community. I am seeking the opportunity to serve as a Port Commissioner because I want to contribute to the Port’s long-term success and ensure it remains a strong economic driver for Stockton and the greater region for years to come.
Please state the reason you would like to be a member of this board/commission.
I would like to serve on the Port Commission because I am deeply committed to the long- term success of the Port of Stockton and its importance to our community. As both a lifelong Stockton resident and an active longshoreman, I have seen the Port’s role in creating quality jobs, strengthening the local economy, and shaping the future of our region. My experience working at multiple ports throughout California has given me valuable insight into best practices, operational opportunities, and areas where the Port of Stockton can continue to grow. I want to contribute that knowledge to help guide responsible development, support workforce needs, and ensure the Port remains competitive and sustainable. Serving on this Commission would allow me to bring a practical, community-focused perspective to the board. I care deeply about Stockton’s future, and I want to play an active role in helping the Port reach its full potential while continuing to benefit the residents it serves.
Have you served on an advisory group before?
Yes No
If yes, please explain.
Yes. During my tenure as a public school teacher with the San Joaquin County Office of Education, I served on several advisory and leadership groups. From 2014 to 2016, I was a Tech Mentor and Presenter, supporting educators in integrating technology and best practices in the classroom. Additionally, from 2015 to 2016, I served as a Professional Learning Community Consultant for SJCOE’s one.Program, helping guide instructional strategies and collaborative planning. These roles strengthened my ability to work in advisory settings, build consensus, and support organizational goals, experience I would bring to the Port Commission.
How did you hear about the position?
