PUBLIC HEARINGS/GENERAL BUSINESS
2. 22-0197 Selection and Ranking of Study Issues
Commissioner Caroompas asked staff about the coast redwood tree that was removed and was is it one tree or were all trees removed and Senior Planner Mr.
Schroeder said it was for one tree. Mr. Caroompas then asked what the process was to designate a Heritage tree and Mr. Schroeder said the process to nominate a heritage resource requires a Resource Allocation Permit application and added that any tree over the 38 inches in circumference measured from 4.5 feet from the ground is considered a protected tree. Commissioner Caroompas noted trees in the development at Charles Street and McKinley Avenue had many trees which were removed and didn’t go through this Commission for approval and Mr. Schroeder said they were removed properly through Tree Removal Permits as those trees were not on the Heritage Resource list. He clarified Heritage Resource trees and Protected trees.
Commissioner Sharma noted that two study issues are budgeted over 35,000 dollars and asked to clarify how the cost is derived and Mr. Schroeder replied that they are estimates from previous type of work and may change and if it raises then it would need additional approval from the City Council. Commissioner Sharma noted the 250,000 dollar cost for CSI 18-02.
Commissioner Caroompas asked who determines who would be contracted to do the work and Mr. Schroeder said that City Staff has a process for Request for Proposal (RFP).
MOTION:
Commissioner Sharma motioned and Commissioner Bratton seconded to defer CSI 19-06.
