The bollard on which the pedestrian crosswalk button for traveling East across Poplar Ave from the Northwest corner to the Northeast corner at the intersection of El Camino Real and Poplar is completely absent, having been destroyed due to some vehicle collision YET AGAIN. Vehicles parking in front of the Kelly-Moore store (999 E El Camino Real) have backed over this bollard several times. Once during the 1980s, I stood in front of the Der Wienerschnitzel store across Poplar (now a Starbucks) and watched a Ford Econoline do this.

Coordinates are

37.352381, -122.008177
The bollard needs to be more substantial than a short length of 3" pipe. These intersections where small streets cross El Camino Real see a great deal of pedestrian traffic and are dangerous. Please attend to this soon.

Yours,
Robert Thomas
P.S. the malfunctioning crosswalk button at Henderson & El Camino Real, my request # 48387, was repaired very promptly. Thank you very much.

The pedestrian trigger for crossing Poplar is missing from the northwest corner of the El Camino and Poplar intersection next to the Kelly-Moore Paint store.

I've posted before and after photos.

This is impacting the walking commute for some residents, specifically Teresa Marie Boune.

Very kindly disregard and close the one that listed my house as the place with the issue.

The traffic signal at Grape and El Camino has been on the blink for at least a month or longer. The signal will be activated either at Grape or the shopping center and stop all traffic on El Camino Real. There is no car at either side. At the S. Mary Ave./El Camino Real intersection, the southbound Mary Ave. left turn signal seems to be malfunctioning. It turns green when there are no cars there. If there are cars there it turns green but then stays green for a long time when all the cars are gone.

I would appreciate if someone would investigate the control of this intersection.

Traffic signal operation at Wolfe/ El Camino Real
Does the city of Sunnyvale make sure this signal operates correctly? Twice in the past week I have been in a 522 VTA bus waiting to go East on El Camino, near the end of the traffic queue. The light turns green, and has cycled to yellow before the bus could even enter the intersection! It looked like traffic going west did not completely clear it's queue, either.

Please make sure that the signal is has sufficient minimum time and traffic detection to clear the El Camino Real traffic queue at this light! The complete cycle is dominated by traffic on Wolfe, and complicated by Fremont Ave. It is a very long cycle, so waiting for the light in a bus, and then not getting through is not an acceptable mode.

Does Sunnyvale grant bus priority to the 522 on El Camino? This would be beneficial to efficient bus operation.

Request for Update/Reconfiguration of El Camino Cross-streets - I was saddened to hear about the auto-pedestrian incidents at El Camino Real and Cezanne and Maria.

Both of these intersections are very risky for pedestrians, as they are often hard to see. El Camino is very wide, and with both sides of the cross streets positioning for straight, right turns, or left turns, there are a lot of distractions. I came across a similar type of intersection in Cupertino that was fixed with a simple solution.

Cupertino had a similar intersection at Stevens Creek and Torre, where the volume of pedestrians affected traffic entering from Torre to a dangerous degree. That light was reconfigured to give pedestrians their own light cycle.

When the light turns red on Stevens Creek, pedestrians at Torre are given the walk sign. Auto traffic at Torre has the red light when pedestrians are crossing. After the pedestrians receive a red light, then the Torre traffic gets a green. This essentially adds one light cycle, but the impact has been impressive. I now feel much more comfortable turning from Torre onto Stevens Creek because I know the pedestrians have cleared the intersection and the cars behind me are not wondering why I am stopped in an intersection and thus won't try to go around. I imagine the pedestrians also feel more safe.

This system acts like a dedicated signalized left turn would. Pedestrians and cars do not enter the intersection at the same time. Very straightforward.

Can the city look into a similar system at intersections such as El Camino and Maria and El Camino and Cezanne? Thank you,
Mary

I travel to America's Best Karate (564 S. Murphy Ave) with my son 2-3 times per week. We travel eastbound on El Camino and turn left (north) onto S. Murphy Ave.

There is an unusual traffic light here because it's not a normal 4-way intersection; it's a T-crossing. On at least three specific occasions and as recently as last night, when my light turns green, there is a driver in the oncoming traffic (west bound on El Camino) who is coming full speed through my path. They do not see this special traffic signal red light. I have learned to be extremely cautious and defensive when I have the right of way to turn here. I am so worried about this intersection and the high potential for an accident. It scares me that I travel through here with my son who will be driving on his own next year along this route...and will be a higher risk for gauging traffic patterns when there is a green light and the assumption of safety. Please consider additional flashing lights in this area to train drivers to stop when it is red. Or re-evaluate the timing of the signals in that area to allow for better safety conditions. The traffic lights at the intersection of S. Mary Ave. and El Camino Real sometimes skip a green light in the cycle.

I will be sitting on S. Mary Ave. heading north at this intersection. The lights on El Camino will turn red, both Mary Ave. directions get a green left arrow, then southbound Mary Ave. gets a green, but northbound Mary Ave. does not get a green. We all have wait for another cycle before we get a green.

I have seen this behavior in the morning, in the evening, on weekdays, and on weekends.

The traffic backs up and I have seen drivers do some strange things when this happens. Yesterday I saw a car go into the left lane and then turn right (!) in front of 2 lanes of stopped traffic just as El Camino was getting a green light.

Didn't see the correct category for 'Sign Issue' category so I just put 'request new sign'. What is needed is this temporary sign to be removed. Hi,
Can someone look into the lights at the intersections of Fremont Ave, Wolfe and El Camino? They don't seem to be synced as well after the lights all went out a week or so ago. I was driving on Wolfe and stopped at Fremont. The light went green on Fremont then I had to stop again at El Camino. This was creating a back-up on Wolfe as the Fremont light was still green but nobody could go. I also noticed this coming the other direction last week. I was driving on Wolfe towards El Camino, but it seemed that the lights at El Camino and Fremont were not syncing together creating many delays.

Thanks for checking! Carmen Talavera No 12/3/2018 10:55 37.35318 -122.01413 S Wolfe Rd & E El Camino Real SR-00014293 Wolfe Closed

The traffic light at El Camino Real & S Wolfe Rd & Fremont Ave. appeared to be occasionally mis-timed. At night, I'm often at the light for 3 - 5 cycles turning left from El Camino onto Wolfe because there are times where cars are completely blocked. It appears at times that the light at Wolfe (crossing Fremont Ave.) is red, which doesn't allow cars to turn left from El Camino onto Wolfe.

I'm not sure if light timing changed, but this did not seem to be a problem previously.

I also heard reports from a coworker that in the morning, Wolfe is backed up from El Camino at times almost to Homestead which may be due to light timing as well.

Going south on fair oaks there is no longer a right turn lane at El Camino due to the changes made this fall during the hotel construction. This has made traffic that already backs up in fair oaks even worse. At a community meeting I attended before the hotel construction was approved we were told that the city had decided that there would be no traffic impact if the hotel project was approved. The hotel hasn’t even opened yet but traffic has been adversely affected. We live on Garland Ave off fair oaks and often have a long wait to turn onto fair oaks, which is our only way out of this one-block section of Garland Ave, which is also used by a lot of the traffic to and from the county clinic on the corner of fair oaks & Garland. Any plans to address this issue? Ralph Garcia Yes 12/6/2018 8:39 37.36185 -122.02498 E El Camino Real & S Fair Oaks Ave SR-00014381 Henderson Closed

The crosswalk at Poplar and El Camino Real is not functioning. It will never cycle to a walk signal whether or not the crosswalk buttons are pushed. I have not tested every direction, but I did try the buttons on the Southwest and Southeast corners of the intersection and it was not possible to cross from Southwest to Northwest, from Southwest to Southeast or from Southeast to Northeast corners. El Camino Real is quite a busy road and the next pedestrian crossing is far, maybe 1/4 mile away, so it resulted in a dangerous and uncomfortable run across the intersection during a green light for through traffic.

I called and reported this to 911 two weekends ago and they said they would send a service crew out to repair, but a friend who lives on Poplar recently informed me that the crosswalk is still not functional. Hello,
My name is Angela Quizon and I am the PTSA President of Peterson Middle School. Recently, there was an accident on El Camino and Poplar and our students were seriously hurt. For this week, our School Community Officer to provide safe crossing for our students that bikes and walks to and from school.

The week of 11/4 to 11/8, we were hoping to have 2 empty police cars present on either direction of El Camino/ Poplar.

The week of 11/12-11/15, To remind the cars that are traveling on El Camino to slow down and watch out for our students and other pedestrians, is it possible to have a mobile messaging device that says "slow down- people crossing ahead" on both side of El Camino and Poplar.

We are hoping that these mechanism will help slow down the cars and keep our students safe. Ava Fanucchi Yes 10/31/2019 16:05 37.35227 -122.00802 E El Camino Real & Poplar Ave SR-00022999 Henderson Closed

El Camino Real and Wolfe Road intersection signal is atrocious. Wolfe Road people are given more time than El Camino Real. Hence the left lanes on El Camino Real (to go to Fremont Avenue or South Wolfe road) is blocked by people going towards West El Camino Real all the time during peak hours. The voice alert (walk, wait, beeping) on the traffic signal of El Camino Real and Henderson (by Kumon side) is not working. This was noticed 11/13/19 in the afternoon by students and verified by adults 11/14/19. We DO have visual impaired community members walking on El Camino/Henderson. This is also one of the main arteries that students of Peterson Middle School (900+ students enrollment) use to get to school and home (biking, walking and cars).

CalTrans came out and service the same button (please refer to CSR Ticket Number- 775959, 11/13/19 completion) on an issue of walking button was inconsistently activating the walking signal.

Please also consider- 1. raise the volume of the voice alert on all the voice alert signals. 2. Have all voice alert say crossing with street names with beep. Currently, some says Crossing El Camino, Some says Henderson, Some does not say any street name at all and just beeps. 3. Increase the time of Lead Pedestrian Crossing by few more seconds. It is now down to 3 seconds. It used to be 6 seconds like Poplar. 3 seconds pedestrian lead time seems very rushed. How about 4 to 5 seconds? 4. The "all red stop" also has been shortened? Can we increase that a bit, too? The perfect time to observe the 2 of real traffic flows is at 7:20am-8am (Monday-Friday) , 2:30pm-3pm (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday), 1:30pm-2pm (every Wednesday and first Thursday of the Month. The evening traffic starts around 5pm-6:30pm.

Thank you for your prompt attention and keeping our students and community members safe. This change will not only help our students. It will also help the community members that crosses this street. Our community members crosses this El Camino and Henderson all hours of the day and evening.

Deep car damaging potholes crossing Wolfe east bound on E. El Camino. My car got two flat tires just crossing through the road on December 2 at about 11:35. I reported this to 911 and they said they'd reach out to city. Another friend cross through today and noticed the same thing, The city is not doing anything about this but I suspect it's causing issues for others. I saw so many startled people driving through the intersection as they drove over. Attached are photos. Intersection of Helen Avenue and El Camino Real.

There is an in-progress (currently taped-up/covered by cardboard pieces) crosswalk with new buttons/controls for the indicator lights to stop traffic and allow pedestrians to cross. I'd sent in an inquiry a bit over a month or more ago, and received a response that PG&E would be checking out the connections in the next couple of weeks. That was several weeks ago. I'm just wondering if there's an updated ETA for the crosswalk and lights to be active. Thanks! Ralph Garcia Yes 12/12/2019 15:42 37.35241 -122.00104 4303 El Camino Real SR-00024079 Poplar Closed

The signage on southbound Sunnyvale Avenue and El Camino indicates only one left-turn lane marked No Utrun. However, there are two left turn lanes. This has created confusion for drivers in the second left turn lane from the left. I think it should have the signages that there are two lanes with No Uturn permitted.

An even better solution is the same signage with Uturns allowed from the left-most lane. Also ensuring straight lane markings for the other lanes will ensure drivers crossing El Camino end up in the correct lane on the other side. I have seen a number of near misses at this intersection with drivers going into the wrong lane. The crosswalk at this intersection is problematic. It is extremely difficult to spot the pedestrians in it, especially during hours that there is heavier traffic. In addition to when there are vehicles lining up to turn left into Helen. Can’t clearly see the entirety of the intersection during those conditions. This crosswalk has taken the lives of too many people. I know that a traffic light was installed but not yet in operation.

Every time I go through that intersection I actively look for pedestrians, and still can’t spot them every time.

Can the crosswalk maybe be closed? Have pedestrians redirected to Helen until it opens? Ralph Garcia Yes 1/13/2020 18:50 37.35235 -122.00102 E El Camino Real & Helen Ave SR-00024898 Pastoria Closed
