I have learned a tremendous amount about how the parks and recreation division of our fine city works as well as helped evaluate the study issues examined by our council members to better ensure their time is used efficiently. It has been an honor collaborating with the other members on this commission. I have also been afforded the opportunity to listen to residents' ideas when it comes to improving our parks system and ask questions to better understand their vision for our city before it is then potentially reviewed by the city council.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve thus far.

I'm passionate about city design and infrastructure, especially when it comes to walkability and density. Pedestrian and bicycle (and transit) infrastructure are vital for both our city and our world's future success -- I want to help ensure they get the attention they deserve within my local community. I'm motivated to apply to this commission because I want the city to invest a larger focus in active transit infrastructure, especially for pedestrians which I believe are not getting the attention they deserve on the commission. I want to ensure that the advisory board does everything it can to ensure that the interests of pedestrians and bicyclists are heard and acted upon by the city council.
I'm a frequent pedestrian and transit user -- I ride the Caltrain to work every day and almost never use my car, preferring to walk and take the bus wherever I go. This provides me with experience and insight into the issues pedestrians and transit users encounter trying to get around the city (and the Bay Area at-large).
I also believe I have the unique attribute of applying to the Bicycle and _Pedestrian_ Advisory Commission as a non- cyclist. I don't even own a bike myself, only borrowing my SO's if I need one -- I'm a _pedestrian_ first. I walk and take transit everywhere I go. This is a perspective the current commission does not seem to have.
I would use my role as commissioner to push for study issues concerning pedestrian-focused infrastructure. While it is making progress, I do not believe the city is working towards the Climate Action and Vision Zero Plans with enough focus; I want to ensure that it does so. I will push for study issues that strive towards these plans with increased earnest and more rapid rollouts.

Degree: BSE Robotics Engineering (Arizona State University) As I mentioned in a prior question response, I ride transit almost daily and walk around the city a lot. I have first-hand experience of the pedestrian and multi-modal infrastructure (or the lack-thereof) in the city.
Also, while not a technical qualification per-say, I did spend 10 weeks in Europe last year paying special attention to the cities•' non-car infrastructure. Over the course of those 10 weeks I was in a private vehicle (i.e. a car/plane) a total of two separate days; the rest of the time I got around via walking, biking, trains, and ferries. I have first-hand experience of what does and doesn't work for active transport in cities that actively invest in non-car infrastructure (such as London and Amsterdam).
Software Engineer (Robinhood)
Having listened to many of the BPAC meetings over the past year, I've learned the Bicycle _and Pedestrian_ Commission is, for a lack of a more nuanced term, biased heavily towards bicyclists.
Do not misinterpret this comment -- bicyclists (and their associated infrastructure) are incredibly vital for the city and I will do everything in my role as commissioner to further that. What surprised me is how little discussion in the BPAC meetings concerns pedestrian infrastructure. I believe pedestrian-only items aren't getting the attention they deserve -- occasional agenda items happen, but are very much so in the minority when compared to those for bicycles. I want the commission to push for more pedestrian-focused items (esp. infrastructure), beyond simple crosswalk safety and mixed-used paths and trails. (examples on this in a later answer in this application.) (I won't hide from the fact that my public service resume is a bit underwhelming; as a result, the items here are fairly unrelated to the BPAC. I want to get more directly involved in the city, beyond providing public comment during meetings; joining the commission will allow me to do that.)
* I routinely donate blood (~6 times in the past year)
* When I go for walks, I frequently bring a trash bag and one of those trash picker-uppers to help keep my neighborhood clean.
* During the 2020 election season I set up a booth at the Sunnyvale and Mountain View Farmers' Markets with resources to help citizens register to vote.

We are looking for someone who has interest in bicycle and pedestrian issues
2. Like many cities in Santa Clara County, Sunnyvale is faced with problems stemming from traffic congestion and air pollution. Suggest ways the City can improve facilities for bicyclists and improve bicycling education and safety programs for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians?
Bryce Beagle
Like much of North America, Sunnyvale is an incredibly car-oriented city with little infrastructure for bicyclists, pedestrians, and transit users. While this is slowly improving, I would like for Sunnyvale to push hard and fast for infrastructure for these forms of transportation. I would like for the city to model its neighborhoods and streets after the Dutch systems, placing heavy focus on safety and widespread availability.
Example items that I would like Sunnyvale to adopt:
* Raised crosswalks / Continuous sidewalks / Further installments of HAWK beacons / Pedestrian refuge islands * Speed limit reductions / Narrower roads/lanes and chicanes * Leading pedestrian intervals (LPIs) at traffic signals * Curb radii reductions
* No right-turn-on-red
* Returning public, but seemingly de facto private, on-street parking to the city * Expansion of the car-free (~fiautoluwfl) streets in downtown Sunnyvale (and eventually other districts within the city) * Widespread network of Class I and Class IV bike lanes * Push local transit agencies (e.g. VTA and Caltrain) to increase service, making pedestrian/bicycle multi-modal commutes and journeys more feasible
Many of these ideas are in Sunnyvale's ATP, DSP, and ECR plans but I do not believe the plans are aggressive enough (both with respect to the CAP and VZPs, and otherwise). Their timelines are, in my opinion, too slow. The city should not be waiting for the slow rollout of massive projects decades down the road, but instead working on more items piecemeal -- an intersection here, a crosswalk there; a bike lane here, a speed limit drop there.
Again, while I'm aware that the commission has no direct legislative authority here, I want to make sure the commission is doing everything in its power to help the council focus on rapid adoption of/migration to modern active transit principles and infrastructure.

I believe I actively and positively contribute to the development of increased bicycle and pedestrian safety in the City of Sunnyvale, and wish to contiune to serve my comminity in this capacity.
With a combination of open-mindedness to new ideas, an analytical mindset, and a passion for bicycle transport as a supplement to or replacement of automobile travel, I can effectively serve the City Council and my fellow citizens with honest and sincere effort to improve our way of life.

I have been a resident of Sunnyvale for 16 years and I always wanted to get involved in volunteer activities, especially those that pertain to arts and culture. The Arts Commission is something which serves both of these purposes as not only get to volunteer my time, but get to do so for a cause that is very near and dear to my heart. In fact, seeing many of my other friends serve in the Arts Council of other cities like Fremont, San Ramon, Cupertino, inspired me to further bring my passion for performing arts into the city of Sunnyvale. Furthermore, another huge motivation for me to apply to this board or commission was the opportunity to work with and learn from many experienced Arts Council members who have the same mindset and passion for preserving and promoting arts as me.
I was a financial analyst at Thomson Reuters by profession and then turned to full time musician after coming to the USA.
Here in the USA also I have worked as Recruiter for Reqroute and have volunteered at schools and other organizations.
People skills and clear communication skills are both attributes that I am very good at. Having organized many fundraising events to help the community, through my own music school, Saphalya Music Academy, I have been able to support multiple fundraisers that have been conducted by other organizations. My capacity of leading many programs, has taught me patience to work with people and taking feedback constructively and working towards improving the quality and raising the standards of our work. As a Musician myself, I can relate to, appreciate, and promote many different aspects of performing arts and also work to bring in diversity programs to encourage the local talents. In addition to this, I also have years of experience regarding the conduction of a variety programs which brings in many different schools and backgrounds all over the Bay Area to join as one community. As part of my organization and event planning skills, I have also been able to develop my technological skills. Specifically, I am skilled in making promotional flyers and promotional videos for events using different media apps such as iMovie and Canva.
To effectively exercise this specific board role, I plan to reach out and bring in the young and experienced artists of Sunnyvale or all backgrounds together on behalf of the City arts Council. By understanding the role and responsibility clearly, as well as the policy of the Council clearly I plan to further support the platform and expand on this idea.
Furthermore, I plan to exercise this specific board by carefully listening to the discussion and supporting the commission to benefit the community. As someone who has been generating various different events and platforms all over the city, I am quite familiar with the importance of collaboration and reaching out to those in the community. Thus, I will ensure that I take into consideration the policy of the commision while also bringing in my expertise of event planning, networking, and organizing with the help of my fellow colleagues and peers. In addition to this, I plan to interact with everyone in the board and the community to ensure that all voices and points are being heard and taken into consideration as part of the City Council. For me, one of the most important aspects when representing a group of people, as I would be doing in this Council, is to hear and learn from all around me. Afterall, everyday is a new opportunity to learn, so through this opportunity, I hope to learn from the experienced people present in the Arts Council who are already serving the communit
y.

I am a Graduate from Bangalore University who majored in Advanced Accounting. I was one of the few highly cross trained employees at Thomson Reuters in the department of Business writing, Insider Trading, Entity Management, and Estimates to name a few. In relation to this field, I have done a few courses in Mission college on GAAP Accounting courses.
After deciding to take music as my full time profession, I earned a Diploma in Music from Srividya University, located in FL, USA.
When it comes to experience, I have served as a judge for many music competitions happening around the Bay area and regional competitions. I also teach students of all ages locally, nationally, and internationally Carnatic Vocal music at my school Saphalya Music Academy.
I am the founder – director of Saphalya Music Academy, a school dedicated to teaching individuals of all ages Carnatic Voice lessons. At my school I also prepare music students for their Music Certification exams at SAMPADA. I volunteer to organize Purandara Vaibhava with the help of local temples every year to preserve and promote the awareness of traditional arts and the rich Literary works of Haridasas within the South Indian music and dance community. I also Volunteer as a Cultural Organizer for Shri Krishna Vrundavana Temple located in San Jose.
Sorry !! I Have not attended any to describe what I have learnt or suggest improvements. I will plan to attend in future and learn.
I have always been passionate about being involved in and serving the community to my best ability. As such, I volunteer in community activities at different capacities by being an organizer, performer, and teacher. In addition to being a passionate volunteer, I am also extremely passionate about music and performing arts, so many of my volunteer activities are more focused around this field. I actively perform in Kannada Koota Northern California, Bay Area community events, and many fundraising events to support the local causes. In addition to that, I train my students to also perform at various volunteer events and special causes. For example, Pragnya's "STEP Up" , Senior Centers, YSTCA, Lukemia & Lymphoma society, Shankara Netralaya and many more. Furthermore, during Covid, I volunteered and organized global events through the use of technology. I was able to bring in many quality and creative programs for the community to enjoy, encouraged the International artists to showcase their talent, and was able to donate to the Artist Relief Fund of Opera San Jose and other organizations that worked to support struggling artists during the pandemic.

Sunnyvale city is rich in diversity and contains many cultural & performing art schools all around. The city must try to actively reach, collaborate and provide an opportunity to bring these performing arts schools on one platform to showcase their talent. Not only will the younger generation who are learning these artforms relate to the purpose of learning and the importance of their art, but it will also allow the community to learn more about different cultures and different types of art.
Every culture has specific art forms that others may not know of, so by having one platform for all of Sunnyvale’s diverse cultures to come together will further allow everyone to learn about and involve themselves in these different art forms and cultures. Moreover, art kindles creativity and inculcates social values for the upcoming generation. Involving teens and the youth of Sunnyvale by giving them the opportunity to showcase their talent will strengthen the art programs in the community and will also enable different arts to grow in awareness.

1 I am very interested in contributing to making Sunnyvale a vibrant, lively community. An active public art strategy and community can help make Sunnyvale more active, attractive, and bring a stronger sense of pride and community. I am excited to work on bringing more active public art to the downtown as well as to other areas.
I am a lawyer and a professor. I am detail-oriented and familiar with policy-making. I am able to engage with procedure and regulations.
At the same time, I am also a designer and an artist. I have taught courses and done city/public art projects focused on civic design, and improving the quality of life in city areas. I have researched various public and street art efforts, to identify promising strategies and policy structures that can make urban and suburban areas more vibrant.
I would engage with all materials circulated, as well as laws and policies that steer the commission. In addition, I would engage with community members to hear ideas, needs, and feedback about what they want to see Sunnyvale be. I would actively participate in meetings and assist staff as they carry out specific programs.

JD - Stanford Law School, 2013
PhD (Dphil) - Queens University Belfast, Politics 2008
MA - Central European University Budapest, International Politics/Nationalism Studies 2004 BA - University of Chicago, Comparative Literature, 2003 I am a professor at Stanford Law School/d.school. I am the executive director of the Legal Design Lab, which is an interdisciplinary group that works on making the legal system and policy-making more accessible, innovative, and human-centered.
I learned that commissioners are thoughtful, creative, and dedicated to making the city better. I also observed that there is low public engagement, even though the matters and questions are of high interest to many community members. I would suggest that the process of setting the agenda for public arts in the city be more open & participatory, and also more driven by research into best practices set by other similar communities around the country & beyond. I would like to see there be more transparent & encouraging ways for community members to suggest & direct where there are opportunities for public art, especially to build a stronger sense of inclusive identity, sense of place, and pride in Sunnyvale. I would also like to see more engagement with private businesses & construction groups/developers that have many 'blank spaces' in the City Line area. How can we encourage and work with them to engage in public art, like through murals, construction fence art installations, and other visual ways to emphasize the community & vibrancy of Sunnyvale? I am an active volunteer at Ellis Elementary where I teach art to students, and I volunteer with Sunnyvale National Little League. I also do pro bono legal work around evictions and housing justice.

Sunnyvale can strengthen its art programs by having:
- Clearer policies & encouragment programs to have private businesses about how they can have murals on their walls, and engage with platforms like Beautify that provide muralists & inspiration to businesses - Public and community group engagement about how they can contribute to public art programs, including mural workshops
- Gather examples of lively, diverse pulic art programs that have been successful in similar size cities - Identify ways to get more public art in more of Sunnyvale’s neighborhoods, like with painted streets/intersections, little art boxes or art galleries (akin to little free libraries), and ohter programs Attachment 3

Serving on the City of Sunnyvale's Personnel Board for the past 4 years have been a very meaningful experience. I am more informed about our City and have a better understanding of our City employees' needs and concerns. I had the opportunity to work alongside a talented group of Sunnyvale residents to help resolve some of the conflicts between employees and the City. Participating in the Personnel Board has enriched me personally. I feel deeply connected to Sunnyvale after being on the Board than I previously felt as a resident. I wish to be reappointed because I want to continue to contribute to the City and remain active in our local personnel administration. 4/28/2022
