What motivated you to apply for this
board or commission?
I am motivated to apply for the Board of Library Trustees because I recognize the vital role the library plays in fostering community, education, and opportunity in Sunnyvale. As the parent of a two-year-old who loves visiting the library, I've seen firsthand the library's importance as a welcoming space for families and lifelong learners. I want to give back to the city by supporting and strengthening this critical resource, ensuring it continues to serve the diverse needs of our community.

What skills or attributes can you bring
to this board or commission?
I bring a combination of strategic planning, leadership, and community engagement skills developed through my professional experience and volunteer work. As a former military officer and corporate development leader, I am adept at analyzing complex challenges, collaborating across diverse teams, and driving impactful initiatives. Additionally, my experience mentoring and organizing community-focused events during my tenure as President of the NYU Stern Asian Business Society demonstrates my commitment to fostering inclusive and accessible programs that benefit all members of the community.

The primary role of a board or
commission member is to provide
advice to City Council on policy issues
that are within the scope of the board or
commission. What steps would you take
to effectively exercise this specific
board or commission role?
To effectively advise the City Council, I would start by thoroughly understanding the library's policies, programs, and community needs through research, attending meetings, and engaging with library staff and patrons. I would actively listen to diverse perspectives, collaborate with fellow board members, and use data-driven insights to assess opportunities and challenges. By staying informed on best practices in library services and focusing on the needs of Sunnyvale's residents, I would ensure my recommendations are thoughtful, inclusive, and aligned with the City's broader goals.

Board or Commission-Specific Questions
Board of Library Trustees
Community demographics and
technology are constantly changing.

What do you think are the principal
issues the Sunnyvale Public Library
may be addressing over the next few
years?
Several key issues that the Sunnyvale Public Library may be able to help address over the next few years:
-Bridging the digital divide - with technology advancing rapidly, the library has an opportunity to help address disparities in digital access by providing public internet services, access to devices, and training programs for community members who lack technological proficiency or resources -Evolving role of the library - there may be a need to balance traditional services with the library's role as a community hub, offering programs that promote lifelong learning, workforce development, and sustainability in response to community needs
-Serving a multilingual and diverse community - with Sunnyvale's increasingly diverse population, the library will need to prioritize resources and programming for non-English speakers, including multilingual collections, translation services, and cultural programming that reflects the community's varied backgrounds
