A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SUNNYVALE AUTHORIZING THE ANNUAL DISPLAY OF
THE TRANSGENDER FLAG FROM MARCH 24 TO MARCH
31, THE TRANSGENDER DAY OF VISIBILITY
WHEREAS, on December 31, 2019, the City Council adopted Council Policy 7.3.30 to establish guidelines for the display of ceremonial and/or commemorative flags at City Hall; and
WHEREAS, the policy provides for the display of commemorative flags that the City Council may authorize by resolution. When so authorized, commemorative flags are to be exclusively flown under the City of Sunnyvale Flag at City Hall; and
WHEREAS, Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) is an annual event dedicated to raising awareness and celebrating the significant contributions of the transgender community. First observed on March 31, 2009, TDOV highlights both the achievements and ongoing struggles of transgender and gender-expansive individuals.; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to display the Transgender Flag at City Hall annually from March 24 to March 31, the official Transgender Day of Visibility.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SUNNYVALE THAT:
1. The Transgender Flag shall be displayed at City Hall annually from March 24 to March 31.
