It is such an idea that when one takes or enjoys the city and its programs that they live in; that they should also give back to the community in which they live or enjoy.

I enjoy supporting initiatives and having a voice as a resident. I truly care about Sunnyvale and the way it has changed
dramatically over the last 7 to 10 years. I support City government, fire and safety and want to be part of the solution for Sunnyvale.

What role do you think public art
plays in a city?
Public Art provides character for a City. The presence of all types of art ensure that finances is not the determining factor to be able to experience and learn about art. Sunnyvale's Art Walk is such a great activity to not only meet other art lovers, but to walk and get to know your city as well as seen all different interpretations of the meaning of art through the eyes of others.

Incoming corporate constructions being required to dedicate a % of building costs to public art was one of the greatest ideas for our City.

How might the City strengthen
art programs in the community?
Sunnyvale being such a healthy city I believe reaching out to our corporations, businesses and residents to raise funds for art programs is essential. I understand the Art Commission has a city budget to work with and a lot can be done with it. I do however believe that others would want to contribute to art projects, classes and programs. Getting the word out to all residents that this is a diverse city where all people count and the importance of wellness and taking time from the stress of electronics and work to get your hands dirty and create art!
The Sunnyvale Public Art
collection includes sculptures and
other physical art. As an Arts
Commissioner, how would you
prioritize the inclusion of visual,
literary, interactive and
performing arts to embody the
cultures of our diverse
community?
Please see above.

Community demographics and
technology are constantly
changing. What do you think are
the principal issues the
Sunnyvale Public Library may be
addressing over the next few
years?
The library for me is such a place of knowledge, comfort and exploration. I think with such an instant technology of information, places like libraries may get forgotten. The library can be such an experience, they can be a place of family bonding, classes, language services, foreign language learning and more.

I think the library should always be sure to have advanced Marketing. They should make a concerted effort to let everyone in the city know about the many activities it offers and to renew the love of the printed word. To start campaigns of hands on. It is a little tough because tech always pushes, faster, easier don't have to leave the house. But I think that is the problem with so much tech usage every day and it being necessary the get out of the house feature of the library could truly become relevant again as the place to meet, relax, enjoy. Short of putting a Starbucks in it, I think it is a place to be seen and enjoyed!
Our main library's infrastructure
is aging, with ongoing
maintenance issues. The 2024
library bond measure, intended
to solve those issues, failed.

What solutions do you suggest?
Sunnyvale is such a place of expertise, talent and knowledge. I had mentioned before that those who take from the City they live in, should give back to the city they live in.

I like the idea of community professionals utilizing their talents, licenses, teams and knowledge to serve the library and make the repairs required. It can be such a team building activity. The city can look into benefits that can be offered to the people or businesses that take part in the library restoration program.

Everything from free advertising, use of City event space for holiday parties, referrals to city job bids, city business highlights etc.

I would also look into why the measure failed in the first place.

Heritage Preservation Commission
Describe how you have engaged
with local history and heritage
within Sunnyvale?
I am a native Sunnyvale resident. I come from a long line of Sunnyvale generations. My uncle Floyd was on the Historical society of Sunnyvale. I ama lover of history and all things historical. I have donated to the SV museum and truly love and enjoy the maintaining and restoration of the past. I am future forward but believe that learning, viewing and enjoying the past is such a necessary feature of a city of any size. Especially for those that come to the US, California or Sunnyvale for the first time, it is a wonderful way to introduce them to their new city through a walk in the past.

What historical features or
structures in our community do
you think are at risk? What
course can the City take to
preserve them?
Whenever society is hurling 90 miles an hour into the future, the past begins to disappear in the review mirror.

History has to come alive for the young. Traveling historical events would be amazing in Sunnyvale classrooms and colleges.

When classes are teaching on a particular time period or historical event, they could contact us to have a display delivered so students could see firsthand a piece of history even photos would be amazing.

Historical events and reenactments again for resident or students would be exciting as well.

What factors would influence
your recommendation to preserve
a particular building or site?
The location, age, design, architecture, the history, the contribution of the location, the ability to preserve it, possible future uses of the location.

Housing and Human Services Commission
Evaluate the quality and
adequacy of the housing
programs that serve the
Sunnyvale community.

I think Sunnyvale is doing a wonderful job with the housing crisis and making sure that programs are available to its resident current and incoming.

I would only suggest maybe a class on housing programs people can come to, so they understand. Maybe a housing event when property manager of Sunnyvale properties could come meet clients looking for a home and meet with them live time to set tours or assist with applications right there and then. Bring the two entities together. Translator on hand would be great as well to ensure everyone could benefit from the event.

Evaluate the quality and
availability of the human services
programs that serve the
Sunnyvale community.

Please see above.

I feel like more in person connections always is a positive step to being sure everyone who needs assistance is able to locate it.

Share your thoughts on how the
City might better improve
housing affordability, prevent
displacement and serve our
unhoused residents.

This is not a judgement on Sunnyvale because it happens everywhere but when I was looking for a lower cost apartment when I almost got laid off, I was surprised that I could find no programs that could help me. Thankfully I was not laid off. The issue was I was told there were no funds to help. I was also told that currently they were only assisting non-English speaking families who have the greatest needs. I was really scared and had nowhere to turn. Luckily it worked out for me, but I would love to join the commission to help wherever I could.

Have you read Unhoused
Community Support?
Yes
What are your thoughts on
Sunnyvale's support for the
unhoused community?
I am encouraged that Sunnyvale is renewing their commitment to those that are currently and those that may become homeless and at risk.
