What skills or attributes can you
bring to this board or
commission?
I currently work as an Adjunct Instructor in Film Studies at San Jose State University and De Anza College. In addition, I am a trained Social Emotional Arts Facilitator via the Arts&Healing Initiative, which uses art therapy based curriculum to transform lives through the innate power of the arts, guided by mental health practices, to foster healing, connection, and resilience for all. I also freelance as a Screenwriter and Film Curator for a Chicago based theatre.

Prior to working in higher education, I spent 7 years running my own after school program called Lights, Character, Action! which used drama and film as tools to teach character education and leadership development.

In my youth years, I performed with the Sunnyvale Community Players, among several other theater productions.

The primary role of a board or
commission member is to provide
advice to City Council on policy
issues that are within the scope
of the board or commission. What
steps would you take to
effectively exercise this specific
board or commission role?
I would be aware of and up to date with current policies and how they are impacting artists and the community. I would also advocate as/where needed to ensure policies are forming and growing to be of the most benefit.

Education – List college degrees,
majors and any relevant training
or experience that demonstrates
your ability to effectively serve
on this board or commission.

Board or Commission-Specific Questions
Arts Commission
What role do you think public art
plays in a city?
I think public art is inspiring as a viewer. Finding just the right piece that speaks to you on a personal level can be a very transforming experience. Additionally, I think when public art becomes a collaborative project for the community, it can bring people together and unite them in a common message they wish to express through that artwork.

How might the City strengthen
art programs in the community?
I think Sunnyvale is very advanced in its artistic offerings in comparison to other local cities. More visibility might help strengthen participation in the programs. I'd also love to see more youth focused art initiatives.

The Sunnyvale Public Art
collection includes sculptures and
other physical art. As an Arts
Commissioner, how would you
prioritize the inclusion of visual,
literary, interactive and
performing arts to embody the
cultures of our diverse
community?
I believe all art modalities need to be prioritized. I would ensure that all public art offerings include a mix of visual arts, music, movement/theater, expressive writing and media arts, for example.
