What new information about your
qualifications would you like
Council to know?
I was appointed by the Sunnyvale City Council to the Heritage and Preservation Commission in 2021 and have served continuously till date. I have also served as Chairperson of the Heritage and Preservation Commission from 2022 until 2023.
During my time as Commissioner, I have been a vocal member of the commission, asking pertinent questions and clarifying questions on specific agenda items presented. I have attended 89% of all Heritage and Preservation Commission meetings over the last four years.
Examples of my involvement on the Commission include:
- Advocating for the public through approving plans such the Resource Alteration Permit (file 2021-7230 and file 2022-7682) for single-family homes, in keeping in line with the historical nature of the respective properties.
- Advocating for the approval of the Landmark Alteration Permit for the expansion of Fibbar MaGee's (file 2021-7203) from a historical and aesthetic perspective in downtown Sunnyvale. I raised questions during the presentation about the seismic integrity of the building and overall safety.
- Asking questions regarding funding Heritage and Preservation Commission study issues (June 1, 2022 Meeting).
- Gaining clarification regarding the current Heritage Inventory and ramifications from Senate Bill 9 (June 1, 2022 Meeting). - While Chair in 2023, advocating for an increased role and voice of the Heritage and Preservation Commission with Sunnyvale City Council members.
- Advocating to Sunnyvale City Council for approval of Heritage and Preservation Commission-related study issues.
- Gaining consensus approval from fellow commission members for a commemorative plaque to be installed by builder, to honor historical legacy of Parish Family property and poultry farm. (Resource Alteration Permit for the removal of 148 Crescent Avenue from the Heritage Resource Inventory (file 2021-7265)). - Advocating for a plaque installation by builder to commemorate removal of historic redwood at Cityline Project (June 5, 2024 Meeting).
In addition to the above contributions to the Heritage and Preservation Commission, I am also a Neighborhood Co-Lead for Pamela Sharma
the Victory Village Neighborhood Association since 2023. In addition to addressing neighborhood concerns with Sunnyvale City Council and the County of Santa Clara, I have also organized social get-togethers for our neighborhood.
I am also an active member of the gardening community in Sunnyvale. I co-moderate a Next Door gardening group,
"Sunnyvale Edible Gardening," to exchange ideas about native plants of the area, best organic methods of gardening, and to foster a sense of community based on our shared love of gardening. I actively attend the monthly garden share at Charles Street Gardens, to share my harvests and plants with the local gardening community. I also support the Charles Street Gardens semiannual plant sales through promotion of the sales to the larger community and purchasing of plants and seedlings.
In my home, I have a small "Little Free Library" in my front yard, where I share books, homemade ceramics, and extra seeds with my community. I am a part-time artist and use my front yard garden to showcase my works in congruous harmony with the plants I am growing in a particular season.

Reasons you wish to be
reappointed.
I would like to continue the work I started in 2021 with the Heritage and Preservation Commission. As I mentioned in my previous answer, I am an active and vocal member of the Commission. I am enthusiastic about the work I do, and I look forward to giving back to my city and community in this capacity.
In particular, I am excited to see the approval of the study issue of the establishment of the Japanese American Incarceration Memorial. It will be the first study issue that has been approved for the Heritage and Preservation Commission in many years. I also look forward to perhaps serving as chairperson again, if I am reappointed to my seat.
I have also had the opportunity to collaborate with residents of Sunnyvale on the commission and City Council members. I look forward to meeting more residents of Sunnyvale through my involvement with the Heritage and Preservation Commission.
Any additional information
related to your reappointment?
