Opposition to Eliminating Street Parking on Hollenbeck Ave Make your voice heard! Please fill out the form to support the community petition.

We, the undersigned residents and supporters of Hollenbeck Avenue, are uniformly writing to express our strong opposition to the proposal to eliminate street parking on Hollenbeck Ave. This change would severely harm our neighborhood's safety, quality of life, and financial well-being. The elimination of street parking on Hollenbeck Avenue will lead to significant negative consequences:

1. Severe Safety Risks:
● Increased Pedestrian Danger: Forcing residents and their visitors to park on side streets means farther, more dangerous walks, especially at night or in bad weather. This affects EVERY family, EVERY day. Risks for Service Workers: Delivery personnel and other service workers will face increased risks carrying heavy items from distant parking spots. More Pedestrian Crossings & Traffic Concerns: Shifting parking increases pedestrians crossing Hollenbeck. This is particularly dangerous.

2. Detrimental Impact on Essential Services:
● Obstacles for Utility: Utility (PG&E, etc.) and city service personnel will face difficulties accessing homes with equipment. Governmental services such as USPS postal and Garbage collection will also be difficult. Deliveries (mail, packages, food, ridesharing), contractors, gardeners, and home health aides will struggle to find parking, leading to delays, inconvenience and economic loss.

3. Loss of Community Value:
● High Dependency on Street Parking: Many residents, guests and friends rely on on-street parking due to limited driveway space and multiple vehicles. Overflow Parking: Eliminating our parking will push an estimated 25,000 person/time annual parking needs onto nearby streets. This is a huge need for our support. Lack of convenience and community loss will negatively impact property values and deter potential buyers. The inability to park in front of our single-family homes is unacceptable to most buyers. Inequality and Unfairness. This proposal prioritizes cyclists over the community's fundamental needs. It unfairly burdens Hollenbeck residents and greatly harms people’s quality of life. We encourage the city to explore effective solutions that enhance bicycle safety without sacrificing resident parking, such as:
25 MPH residential speed limit.

More effectively enforcing existing speed limits.

Improving existing bike lanes on nearby streets.

Implementing comprehensive traffic calming measures on Hollenbeck to address     speeding (e.g., speed bumps, better signage).

Our Plea: We implore you to REJECT the street parking elimination proposal and work collaboratively with residents on solutions that genuinely enhance safety for all while preserving our neighborhood's essential parking and livability.
