E: Request for Support for FY27 Community Project Funding, Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority - Homestead Road Safe Routes to School Improvements
D
ear Ms. Gonot:

O
n behalf of the City of Sunnyvale, I am writing to express my support for the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority’s (VTA) Homestead Road Safe Routes to School Improvements project.

I
n response to concerns raised by parents and school administrators, the County of Santa Clara funded and completed a Safe Routes to School Corridor Study in 2018–2019.

Following completion of the study, the County asked VTA to serve as the lead implementing agency. The requested funding would support environmental clearance and design of improvements identified in that study and informed by input from parents, school representatives, nearby residents, and other community members.

T
he proposed project would enhance pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure along Homestead Road. Planned improvements include separated bike lanes, closure of sidewalk gaps, widened sidewalks, high-visibility crosswalks, curb ramps, and upgraded pedestrian a nd bicycle detection at crossings. These improvements are intended to improve safety and accessibility for students and other corridor users.

I
am pleased to support this project and urge you to provide favorable consideration of this funding request.

Sincerely,
L
arry Klein
Mayor
