Equipment
Since implementing a vehicle replacement program, we have been able to replace a majority of our older patrol vehicles in the past couple of years. This has allowed the department and its patrol officers the ability to use vehicles that do not break down frequently as before. Typically, there were four (4) offices using one patrol car. Now we have this down to normally two (2) officers sharing one care which allows for better upkeep, less wear/tear, and longer life. Having a dependable vehicle also allows a much better response to our public when the vehicle is in good working condition.
AXON body worn cameras have been implemented. This has given our staff better accountability by recording incidents, use of force situations and report writing time being cut down. The ability to send these to the DA’s office should also cut down the number of videos that need to be re-sent.
2025 Fair
This year’s 2025 Fair was a complete success compared to the issues from the 2024 Fair. An obvious decline in calls for service has been observed by our staff and fair staff. The number of incidents reported at the Fair this year was in the single digits compared to the past couple of years. No major incidents, no arrests and no weapons had been confiscated from this year’s Fair.
The parade was also a success with no incidents to report.
The cost to the Susanville Police Department for the Fair this year is estimated to be $25,787.91. This did not include the Public Safety Chief and Admin Assistant times during the fair. (Fair reimbursement to the city was $15,435)
2025 Stats
Will be given verbally and copies provided to Council on the night of 38 the meeting.
Community
The police department has recently worked with Walmart in combating retail theft. The most recent operation resulted in four (4) citations and five (5) contacts for Petty Thefts.
Members of the police department have worked closely with SIR, providing training to its members for active shooters and used airsoft props with staff.
