TO: THE HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: JUNE 21, 2022
FROM: MATT OSPITAL, CITY ENGINEER
SUBJECT: BRYSON PARK UPGRADE PROJECT
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve the resolution awarding the construction contract for the Bryson Park Upgrade Project to the low bidder.
BACKGROUND:
The City applied for a State of California – Department of Parks and Recreation grant on approximately January 6, 2022, for upgrades to Bryson Park. Based upon the Park’s location, the ½ mile surrounding it is designated as a disadvantaged community and does not require City matching funds. The maximum grant amount for this program is $177,952 and this project was approved by the State.
At the City Council meeting on March 21, 2022, the City decided to move forward with preparing bid documents for a concrete sports court and walking path to bid the project in June. With construction costs escalating, the project was broken out into various components. The base bid project consisted of construction of the sports court. Additive Alternative #1 consisted of the walking path and Additive Alternate #2 consisted of relocating 2 existing trees that were in the footprint of the Base Bid project.
DISCUSSION:
The City of Sutter Creek conducted the bid opening for the Bryson Park Upgrade Project at 10:00 a.m. on June 14, 2022. The City received three bids for the project as follows:
Base Bid Add. Alt. #1 Add. Alt. #2 Total
1. Campbell Construction $97,100.00 $17,550.00 $5,200.00 $119,850.00
2. Sutton Enterprises $113,150.00 $31,200.00 $12,400.00 $156,750.00
3. Cole Tiscornia Construction $189,875.00 $81,900.00 $10,000.00 $281,775.00 No discrepancies were noted in the bid review. Based upon the attached bid summary, I hereby recommend the City Council of the City of Sutter Creek award the contract for the Base Bid, Additive Alternate #1 and Additive Alternate #2 to the low bidder, Campbell Construction in the amount of $119,850.00. Construction is anticipated to start on July 25th and end on September 2nd. 18 Main St., Sutter Creek, CA 95685 • Telephone: (209)267-5647 • Fax: (209)267-0639 • TTY: 711 The City of Sutter Creek is an equal opportunity service provider and employer BUDGET IMPACT:
Project Costs
Total Grant Amount $ 177,952.00
Cost to Date $ 27,000.00
Construction Bid $ 119,850.00
Remaining Funds $ 31,102.00
With the low bidder’s construction cost of $119,850.00, this would leave approximately $31,102 for construction contingencies and construction management. #2942
