The January 16, 2024 regular joint meeting of the Taft City Council/Taft Successor Agency, held in the Council Chamber at Taft City Hall, 209 East Kern Street, Taft, CA 93268, was opened by Mayor Dave Noerr at 6:00 PM. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mayor Dave Noerr and invocation given by Pastor John Getty.

Council Member Waldrop shared about the book sales of a local woman who wrote a book about growing up in Taft.
Council Member Chavira thanked the Midway Driller for publishing an article on the new traffic laws and the Police Department for the arrest of a local arsonist.
Mayor Pro Tem Krier announced the upcoming Taft Sportsman’s Club dinner, encouraged attendance and support of the club.
Mayor Noerr talked about the Governor’s past budget surplus and the fact that there is now a budget emergency.

APPROVE THE MOU BETWEEN TAFT UNION HIGH SCHOOL AND THE CITY TAFT POLICE
DEPARTMENT FOR AGREED JOINT USE OF THE DISTRICT COMMUNICATION TOWER SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The City of Taft Police Department and Taft Union High School both recognize the importance of enhanced emergency communication services to the citizens of Taft. The implementation of TPD emergency communication equipment will enhance radio transmissions throughout the City of Taft and its surrounding area. This allows dispatchers, after receiving a call for service, to clearly broadcast the essential officer safety information needed in the field while responding to inherently dangerous situations. Taft Union High School and the Taft Police Department mutually agree to collaborate on the installation of the needed emergency communication equipment on their district tower. The City Attorney has reviewed and approved the MOU.
RECOMMENDED ACTION
Motion to approve the MOU with Taft Union High School regarding the implementation of the Taft Police Department communication equipment and allow the Mayor to sign the MOU and find that the activity is not a project per the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) as set forth in Section 15060(c)(3) and Section 15378 of the CEQA Guidelines.
