COMMITTEE BUSINESS

1. Renaming Voorburg Park to Daisen Park Update — Staff provided a revised image of the new monument park sign along with a material and layout update. Staff will officially rename Voorburg Park to Daisen Park in the winter of 2024 as part of a commemoration for the 30th anniversary of Temecula, USA and Daisen, Japan sisterhood.

2. Nakayama Park Serenity Garden Update—Staff provided concept plans for the Nakayama Park renovation. The park landscape will tie in elements of Japanese serenity gardens using preapproved native Southern California plant material. The park will provide access points for pedestrians and cyclists from both the Santa Gertrudis Creek Trail and Nicolas Road. Other Park features will include concrete finish to mimic serenity garden gravel, steppingstones, benches, tables, other seating, bike racks, plant identification labels, entry boulder with a preapproved message and a 30th anniversary commemorative plaque gifted from Temecula sister city, Daisen, Japan. This project is planned for completion by December 2024.

3. Boys and Girls Club Property Update/Skate Amenity — The Boys and Girls Club property located on 1st and Pujol Street in Temecula requires renovations. The project goal will not only be to meet health and safety standards, but to also activate and revitalize a space for the community. If possible, a renovation feature would be skate amenity close to the property. The organization is fundraising and seeking other sources for funding. They are also pursuing preapproval from the city to begin this renovation process.

4. Additional Skate Amenities — Long Canyon Creek and Wolf Creek Park — Staff proposed and presented new skate amenities remaining within CIP budget for Long Canyon Creek and Wolf Creek Park. Amenities are durable skate structures that are highly customizable and require minimal space for concrete pads. Staff will include the surrounding neighborhood in the process and consider sound studies provided by supply company for installment. This project can begin by the summer of this year with approvals from the appropriate channels.
