COMMITTEE BUSINESS
1. Proposed Veteran of Foreign Wars (VFW) Veterans Day Car Show Update — VFW District Commander John Hernandez reported to the subcommittee that he is collaborating with the Rotary Club of Temecula, other nonprofit groups and organizations to coordinate this event for November 2 at the Temecula Promenade Mall. Updates of event logistics included:
sponsorships, expenses, marketing methods, location preparation, food vendors, sales and other event itinerary. The subcommittee recommended for Mr. Hernandez to continue with follow up meetings. Mr. Hernandez requested the possibility of making this an annual event. The subcommittee recommended to start with the growth and development of the initial event before making it annual.
2. Community Service Military and Veteran Program Updates — Staff provided updates and details for the following military programs: Veterans Work-Study, Skill bridge, Veterans Appreciation Breakfast, Military Banner, and Veterans Paver Campaign. The committee made the following recommendations to staff to consider in future programming: provide a questionnaire at the Veterans Appreciation Breakfast and Community Services social media, provide a military programming presentation at the November City Council meeting, reconsider accessibility of veteran and military information on the city website, and for staff to brainstorm and return to the subcommittee with a prospective plan for the Path of Honor pavers.
