SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES
APRIL 23, 2025
CALL TO ORDER
Mayor Sternquist called the City Council Special Meeting to order at 7:04 a.m. in the City Hall Community Room located at 9701 Las Tunas Drive, Temple City.

ABSENT: Councilmember - Yu
ALSO PRESENT: City Manager Cook, Community Services and Public Safety Supervisor Amaya, Senior Community Preservation Officer Tran

- 3. PUBLIC COMMENTS -
Jerry Jambazian Temple City business owner, inquired about the memorial vigil for • Deputy March that is held yearly in his memory.
Evelyn Lam, Youth Committee Member, commented on awareness of e-bikes at the high school and the possible implementation of a safety course or registration system.

5. NEW BUSINESS -
A. APPROVAL OF LETTER IN SUPPORT CONCERNING LOS ANGELES COUNTY
SHERIFF DEPARTMENT VACANCIES AND FUNDING
The City Council is requested to approve a letter be sent to Supervisor Kathryn Barger supporting additional resources for Sheriff Deputy Training Academies to close the gap with vacancies in the Department.
City Manager Cook gave a brief overview of letter written to Supervisor Kathryn Barger in support of the Los Angels County Sheriff's Department regarding finding for additional Deputy Sheriff Academies.
- Captain Maza gave a summary on vacancies in the department due to retirements and the low number of recruits entering the department due to budgeting.

City Council made final comments regarding the letter in support of the Los •Angeles County Sheriff Department being sent to Supervisor Kathryn Barger.
Mayor Pro Tem Man made a motion to approve a letter be sent to Supervisor Kathryn Barger supporting additional resources for Sheriff Deputy Training Academies to close the gap with vacancies in the Department, Seconded by Councilmember Chen and approved by the following votes:
AYES: Councilmember - Chen, Chavez, Man, Sternquist
NOES: Councilmember - None
ABSTAINED: Councilmember - None
ABSENT: Councilmember - Yu
