Interests & Experiences
Why are you interested in serving on this board/committee and what do you believe you can contribute?
Across our country, 10,000 people per day are turning 65. Seniors are the fastest growing demographic in California and in Thousand Oaks. By 2030, over 30% of the population of Thousand Oaks will be over 65. My experience as explained below will help develop ideas for the City to consider to help prepare for this senior population influx, so that seniors who choose to stay in Thousand Oaks can live out their years with the support that will be needed. My background in helping to develop the California Master Plan on Aging as ordered by Governor Newsom, will be useful as State requirements and monies are flowed down to the Counties and Cities, especially in Thousand Oaks to implement programs to help seniors.
Please list all relevant experience supporting appointment to this board.
I have served several terms on the TO Council on prepare the Ageing and helped author and analyze the recent survey conducted by the COA to help determine the needs of seniors in the Conejo Valley, I am an active Senior Assemblymember of the California Senior Legislator, which was created by state law in 1980 and is an official, State funded nonpartisan organization that works to preserve and enhance the quality of life of older Californians and their families. The CSL was established under California State law in 1980 and the organization has been responsible for more than 205 bills signed into law to help seniors. I am currently working on the legislation to address the transportation needs of seniors as part of the California Master Plan on Aging, to help the state prepare for transportation needs of seniors who can no longer drive.
I am a member of the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging and serve as head of the Transporation subcommittee and on the Aging and Disability Resurce Center subcommittee which is helping to develop a no wrong door organization in Ventura County so that seniors can call one number to get help in determining waht State resources they are eligible for.

Interests & Experiences
Why are you interested in serving on this board/committee and what do you believe you can contribute?
I have enjoyed serving this past year on the Council onAging. I have been involved in several committees, and would like to be involved in their planned work for the upcoming year. I feel the COA is an important asset to our community. Plans next year are to bring resource info to target senior audiences in our community. I feel this will be of great value to our underserved senior citizens.
Please list all relevant experience supporting appointment to this board.
I hold an M.A in Adult and Continuing Education from the University of Nebraska. This background has give me the skills necessary to be able to teach older adults. In this case, I want to join our other committee members to develop materials with info regarding the vast resources in our community for our seniors, Our communication committee hopes to take our resource info to target audiences in the community and meet one on one or deliver the flyers (as appropriate).
Please list current and past involvement with civic, volunteer and non-profit organizations, including City boards/committees, and the dates of activity.
I have been an advocate for the underserved in my community all my life. Upon graduation I worked for a non-profit organon Lincoln, Nebraska that provided transportation, WIC appointments dental, eye, and hearing screenings. I was responsible for the weekly screenings for dental, eye, and hearing. I recruited dentists, optometrists, and.an audiologist for free screenings. Then I recruited health professionals in the community to accept these patients for care at no charge or a sliding scale. I then moved on to UCLA as house staff liaison where I was their advocate to the hospital administration, as well as being in charge of all their on- clinical needs ( health insurance, mealtickets, etc). Most of my working career has been as manager of my husband’s dental specialty office. We accepted many non-paying patients who were in need.
Most recently I have served as a Commissioner on The Council on Aging.

I a
m applying for a position on The Council of Aging because I would like to have an opportunity to make a difference in the life of other seniors in our community. My graduate work prepared me to be able to motivate and teach management how to train their employees most effectively. This has enabled me to be able to work well with all people. I am 76 years old, and I have had many experiences and developed many skills that give me a very broad base of experience. I have always been very interested in helping others. I feel with my background and skill set I would be a valuable asset to this council. My husband and I first came to Los Angeles in 1979, when my husband was appointed head of the Endodontic department at the UCLA School of Dentistry. I soon accepted a job as House Staff Liaison for all the interns and residents at UCLA hospital. We kept our condo in Sherman Oaks after we moved away and returned here several times a year. We moved to Westlake Village in 2006 and began living here full time after we retired in 2009. We love this area, and I would like to help make it even better for our seniors.

Interests & Experiences
Why are you interested in serving on this board/committee and what do you believe you can contribute?
I have been a resident of Thousand Oaks for over 35 years and know what a wonderful place it is to live. But, as I have gotten older I see that there is a lot that, when you are older, it is harder to do and I feel that I can help identify areas that the city can help make things easier for seniors.
Please list all relevant experience supporting appointment to this board.
In my work life I was an accountant and information management analyst for GTE (now Verizon) - these helped me develop analytical skills to be able to see problems and solutions. I had to take problems from users and translate them so that the programmers could solve them. This helped learn to listen to different perspectives and find common ground.
With the start of the pandemic, in my volunteer role with Adelante Comunidad Conejo, I helped develop our food pantry program - starting with delivering lunches from the school district to delivering groceries to 40 families a week to holding weekly drive through food distributions as well as pantry in a downtown TO apartment complex and now our monthly free food distribution at Beyer Park. So taking a small idea and growing it is in my wheelhouse. Also, this work has given me a perspective of living in Thousand Oaks and being in a group that is not seen. Their needs are different from mine so I now have that perspective.
Please list current and past involvement with civic, volunteer and non-profit organizations, including City boards/committees, and the dates of activity.
