Interests & Experiences
Why are you interested in serving on this board/committee and what do you believe you can contribute?
I was born and raised in the Conejo Valley and have dedicated my life to supporting and advocating for the ATTACHMENT #1
local arts community. At 23, I was the youngest ever board member of the Arts Council of the Conejo Valley in its 50-year history, and I continued that work as the inaugural chair of the City of Thousand Oaks Arts and Culture Roundtable during our organizational year. As Chair, I oversaw the roundtable's creation of committees, guided the committee through the development of our processes, and spearheaded the completion of our first major project, a city-wide arts and culture survey of local residents and stakeholders. Our survey had several hundred respondents and is currently being used as a guide for future ACR projects and activities. I believe I set many great precedents during our first year as a committee and that the work I did will long outlast me. I believe I can continue that productive work if given another term on the commission.
Please list all relevant experience supporting appointment to this board.
I bring a unique perspective to the board, having worked in entertainment, public affairs, and government for over ten years. I believe my ability to balance the realities of municipal government capability with the ambitions of the local arts community makes me the perfect fit for the committee. I have served on the boards of several local arts groups and have a reputation for being a fierce advocate for the issues that matter to our neighbors. I have also run a business in the community, worked with local elected officials, and developed public/private partnerships between government agencies that are still going strong.

Why are you interested in serving on this board/committee and what do you believe you can contribute?
My earlier experience was in the field of mental health and although I am not an artist, I used art as a method to
work with child and adults. Art is an amazing tool that used in a therapeutic setting can add voice to trauma, anger or emotions that may not be easily accessed. Beyond using it therapeutically, I believe art, in all its forms is essential for a community to thrive. Our county is one of the few county's in California without a viable art museum, this is a void that needs to be addressed. And we are fortunate to have access to our own performing arts center where we celebrate art in the lobby's and through the many performances featured each year. I have been blessed to have been born into a culture (Latina) that is rich with music, dance, literature and of course art. I love the colors, mystical stories, dance and rhythms of all countries of South, and Central America as well as the Hispanic cultures of Spain and Portugal and the islands of Cuba, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. Although the majority of these countries are Spanish speaking, there customs, traditions, foods, dance and music are varied. And that would be a wonderful journey to explore.
