Why are you interested in serving on this board or committee?* Briefly describe the experience, interests, skills, or talents you have that you believe will be beneficial to the work of this board or committee.*
Please list all relevant extracurricular and/or volunteer experience, including on City boards or committees, the dates of your involvement, and note any leadership roles that you held.* Summary of duties: (?) General Accounting Duties overseeing the Corwin Press Division of Sage Publishing. I handle the accounting recording and reporting needs, financial analysis, contract and royalty review, sales commissions, system enhancements, and various other duties as needed. I am an active CPA (Certified Public Accountant) and am therefore assigned higher level accounting functions. I am about to have my 10-year Anniversary at Sage Publishing.
I am now proudly serving my first term on the Thousand Oaks CFRC (Community Funding Review Committee) and am the current Chairperson for this year. I would love the opportunity to continue to serve on the CFRC committee for another term.
I have found that my time devoted to the CFRC is both meaningful and impactful. And I have found that I have the right skills to make a difference. The CFRC process itself is challenging, gratifying and exciting to be part of. I look forward to every meeting.
It is my personal pleasure offering my skills and experience for such a special purpose that truly benefits the community that I love. For all these reasons, I see this as the perfect volunteer opportunity to be involved with.
I hold an active CPA license and over my 35+ years of work experience, I have developed many financial and analytical skills that are useful to the process of evaluating Grants or Grant applications. I review and evaluate many contracts in my work, which is very helpful to this committee work. I have an eye for quickly comparing information and finding trends or asking the probing questions. And I have a well-developed eye for details and numbers.
Professionally, I have worked as a finance manager in many different companies and industries, public, private, large and small- including serving as CFO of a non-Profit school. I find this varied experience extremely helpful, and it offers me a broad range to draw from when evaluating and understanding Grant applications.
During my term on the CFRC specifically, I have gained a lot of knowledge about the needs of the Thousand Oaks Community and about the many organizations that help fulfill those needs.
I have developed my communication skills and helped our CFRC committee to prioritize needs and negotiate as a team to a common goal.
I find that problem solving skills and good communication are necessary on this committee as it can be challenging to fund all the needs 100%.
Personally, in my life, I have continuously found ways to offer my time to serve and help many non-profit organizations. I am always locally engaged with some purpose. I believe my past involvements with so many groups offers wonderful insight to some of the struggles that the organizations applying for Grants in Thousand Oaks may be dealing with.
For the last three years (2022 2025), I have been serving on the Thousand Oaks Community Funding Review Committee (CFRC) This year I was privileged to be elected to serve as the CFRC's Chairperson The previous year, I served as the Vice Chair I would love the opportunity to continue to serve CFRC a second term
I was recently appointed to serve on a 5 person Finance Committee by the State of California for Order of Eastern Star (This is a non profit group affiliated with Masonic organizations ) I am in year 2 of a 5 year term of this important role (2024 2029) This finance committee approves all budgets and provides oversight of all financial transactions, grants, and investments for the entire organization and its endowments I also currently serve on the Board of Directors for a small non profit in Los Angeles called New Musicals Inc (2021 2025) They are arts related and hold wor1<shops and courses to develop talent for the Musical Theater genre Part of my function is fundraising and the review grant applications
Another fun thing about me I regularly serve as a Volunteer Usher for the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Theater I do love working at the theater 3 4 times a month (2022 to ??) We are very blessed to have this world class venue in our community Previously I have been involved as a volunteer Board member for multiple organizations Examples Various Conejo Valley PTA Boards, Band Booster Club, AYSO Soccer, CV Little League, Boys and Girl's Club, and my Homeowner's Association Board (All pre 2020) So many skills and experiences have come from supporting these organizations A resume is

Why are you interested in serving on this board or committee?* Briefly describe the experience, interests, skills, or talents you have that you believe will be beneficial to the work of this board or committee.*
Summary of duties: (?) Leading marketing, communications, placemaking and event initiatives for Downtown Los Angeles and managing 4 staff and 5 marketing/PR agencies. Overseeing DowntownLA.com, signature DTLA events, and @downtown_la social media profiles. Budgetary responsibilities of $1.25M+. Reporting to the President/CEO.
I have had the pleasure of serving on this committee for the last two years and it's been an amazing experience. I’ve lived in Thousand Oaks for over 20 years. Thousand Oaks is my hometown and after a hiatus, I am proud to call Thousand Oaks home once again. I’m grateful I get to raise my toddler in the community that made me who I am today. After moving back in mid 2020, I wanted to find a meaningful way to give back to the community by leveraging my experience and expertise. When I came across the Community Funding Review Committee, I thought this would be a great fit as I am experienced in the four funding issue areas and well- versed in community funding and grant-making having served on all sides of the equation. I have spent my career in the non-profit sector serving for over 15 years with a variety of event planning, fundraising experience, outcomes evaluation work and managing programs ranging from social services to public spaces.
Please list all relevant extracurricular and/or volunteer experience, including on City boards or committees, the dates of your involvement, and note any leadership roles that you held.* As shared, I am well-versed in community funding and grant-making and experienced in the four funding issue areas. Below is a snapshot of my relevant experience.
Grant-Making & Community Funding
VP Projects and Outreach, Junior League of San Jose (2012-2013, 2016-2017) I oversaw community grant-making distributing over $175,000 to local non-profits including reviewing the RFP process, assessment rubric, and selection process to ensure objectivity and inclusivity as well as ensuring that the funds granted aligned with the goals set as a Junior League.
Applying for Community Funding from the City
Managing Director / Director of MarComm and Events, San Jose Downtown Association (2016-2021)
I oversaw our applications to the City of San Jose for events, activations and public art installations receiving over $550,000 across 20 applications. Over that time period, there were innovative changes made by the City to the community funding application process including a two-year grant award for long-standing events easing the burden on event producers. I also interacted with the equivalent of the Community Funding Review Committee as the process was structured to have committee members discuss the applications in a public meeting with an optional 2 minute timeframe for comment by the applying organization.
Community Enhancement (Environmental Benefit)
Managing Director and other roles, San Jose Downtown Association 2016-2021 I partnered with environmental agencies and key partners (city, non-profits and businesses) to make our events more sustainable, to provide unique bike parking, to conduct community outreach on new bike lanes and art crosswalks. Also volunteered with the Sierra Club to support fundraising efforts.
Community Event Fund Grants (Artistic and Culture Events) Managing Director and other roles, San Jose Downtown Association 2016-2021 I oversaw 100+ days of programming annually including Farmers’ Market, Music in the Park festival, Downtown Ice and smaller events plus a public art program that displayed high school student artwork on utility doors around downtown.
Social Services Fund Grants (Non-profits Assisting Lower Income Residents) Junior League of San Jose 2008-2021
Girl Scouts of Northern California 2008-2015
At Girl Scouts of Northern California, I oversaw our agreement with the County to deliver services to migrant farm workers. At the Junior League of San Jose, I oversaw our programs and grants with non-profits serving low-income youth focused on literacy and helping those who are aging out of the foster care system.
Sports Facility Grants (Existing Sports Fields or Facilities and Equipment Purchase) Managing Director and other roles, San Jose Downtown Association 2016-2021 I oversaw Downtown Ice which included the construction, installation and management of an outdoor ice rink including equipment purchases, capital improvements and permitting annually.
