Subject: Public Comment on 2025 Transit Title VI Plan Update Dear Mayor Newman, Members of the Thousand Oaks City Council, and Staff, My name is Brian Schumacher, and I am the Advocacy and Community Impact Manager for the Autism Society Ventura County, speaking today on behalf of our Advocacy Committee.

We would like to express our gratitude and STRONG SUPPORT for your continued efforts to improve public transportation in Thousand Oaks, as reflected in the proposed 2025 Transit Title VI Plan Update. Reliable and equitable public transit is es sential for fostering inclusion and access for individuals in our community, particularly Autistic individuals and others with disabilities.

For many Autistic people, public transportation serves as a vital lifeline, providing access to critical services, education, employment opportunities, and soc ial connections. The Autism Society Ventura County deeply values the City’s commitment to fostering equitable access through this plan and its focus on compliance with federal standards to secure Federal Transit Administration (FTA) funding.

We also want to highlight the importance of training transit staff to ensure ser vices are inclusive and accessible. Understanding the unique needs of riders, including Autistic individuals who may experience sensory sensitivities or communication challenges, is key to creating a welcoming and supportive transit sy stem.

On behalf of our Advocacy Committee, we strongly encourage the City Council to approve the 2025 Transit Title VI Plan Update and continue prioritizing the development of equitable, inclusive, and sustainable tr ansportation that benefits everyone in our community.

Thank you, Mayor Newman, for your leadership, and thank you all for taking this important step toward impr
oving public transit access for everyone in our community.

Sincerely,
TO COUNCIL: 10/07/2025
