DISCUSSION
To streamline the City’s legislative efforts and improve coordination, the Mayor and the Legislative Affairs team have proposed consolidating the existing State and Federal Legislative Advocacy Committees into a single City Council Legislative Advocacy Special Standing Committee. This unified committee will focus on regional, state, and federal legislative matters, thereby enhancing the City’s ability to advocate more effectively and efficiently for its priorities.

As part of this restructuring, Mayor Chen has appointed himself as Chair, with Councilmembers Jon Kaji and Aurelio Mattucci serving as members. The newly formed City Council Legislative Advocacy Special Standing Committee will be tasked with overseeing the City’s legislative priorities and representing the community’s interests at all levels of government—regional, state, and federal.

The consolidation of the State and Federal Legislative Advocacy Committees into one unified committee will improve the City’s legislative strategy and advocacy efforts. The Mayor’s appointments to the newly formed City Council Legislative Advocacy Special Standing Committee are intended to ensure a focused and coordinated approach to advancing the City’s legislative goals.
