MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING
OF THE TORRANCE CITY COUNCIL
1. CALL TO ORDER
The Torrance City Council convened in a regular meeting on March 18, 2025, at 5:07 p.m. in the LeRoy J. Jackson Council Chamber, 3031 Torrance Blvd.
ROLL CALL
Present: Councilmembers Kalani, Lewis, Mattucci, Sheikh, and Mayor Chen
Absent: Councilmembers Gerson and Kaji
Present: City Manager Chaparyan, City Attorney Sullivan, City Clerk Rebecca Poirier and other staff representatives
2. FLAG SALUTE/ INVOCATION
The flag salute was led by Councilmember Kalani.
The non-sectarian invocation was given by Councilmember Lewis.
3. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
No members of the public spoke.
4. CLOSED SESSION
The City Council immediately recessed to closed session at 5:10 p.m. to confer with the City Manager and the City Attorney on agenda matters listed under 4A) Conference With Labor Negotiator, 4B) Public Employee Discipline/Dismissal/Release, 4C) Real Property – Conference With Real Property Negotiator and 4D) Conference With Legal Counsel – Existing Litigation - Litigation pursuant to California Government Code §54957.6, California Government Code §54957, California Government Code §54956.8 and California Government Code §54956.9(d)(1).
Councilmember Sheikh left the City Council during closed session at 8:38 p.m.
The City Council reconvened in public session at 9:02 p.m. City Attorney Sullivan reported that the City Council voted 5-0 with Councilmembers Gerson and Kaji absent to uphold the termination of a Police Officer.
5. ADJOURNMENT
MOTION: Councilmember Lewis moved to adjourn the City Council meeting at 9:04 p.m. to Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. for closed session with regular business commencing at 6:30 p.m. in the LeRoy J. Jackson Council Chamber . Councilmember Kalani seconded the motion. The motion carried by a vote of 5-0 with Councilmembers Gerson and Kaji absent. ###
