By: Brett Meislahn, Senior Business Manager | [email protected] Subject: General Services – Authorize Change Order #1 to Purchase Order for As-Needed Heil Brand Sanitation Truck Repair Parts. Expenditure: $110,000 (Non-General Fund; Approximately $55,000 Annually).
RECOMMENDATION
Recommendation of the General Services Director that City Council authorize change order #1 with Bodyworks Equipment, Inc. of Monrovia, CA (PO #2025-165) in the amount of $110,000, for a new not-to-exceed amount of $1,050,000, to furnish Heil brand sanitation truck repair parts on an as-needed basis through June 30, 2027.
FUNDING
Funding is available in the fiscal year 2024-2025 Fleet Services Fund’s Operating Budget and is anticipated to be available in the subsequent fiscal year.
DISCUSSION
The Fleet Services Warehouse provides repair parts for the City’s refuse and recycling trucks, the vast majority of which are designed around Heil brand truck bodies. Parts are ordered and stocked on a continual basis so that maintenance issues can be addressed quickly without impacting daily sanitation routes throughout the City.
Original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts are used by the City in the repair of its sanitation trucks to provide the highest level of reliability and operations for the vehicles. Heil operates a dealership network across California, and Bodyworks Equipment, Inc. is the authorized regional dealer for the City of Torrance. Heil allows one dealer to sell OEM parts in any given Area of Responsibility (AOR), and as such Bodyworks Equipment, Inc. is considered a sole-source vendor for the City.
Based on current and anticipated purchasing trends, the requested increase is expected to provide sufficient funding to continue stocking parts inventory through June 2027. 1
